If you feel sad, maybe you should reconsider your choice. Did you stop eating meat to please anyone or to prove anything? Maybe you lack iron or haven't found the right food yet? Becoming vegetarian is not simply done by removing meat from your menu, but it takes a complete different approach towards food, what to eat, how to prepare it. Check out a few recipes online and get yourself a beautiful new cookbook. In the meantime, try some vegetarian meat substitutes to get back the taste you still miss.
And no, I have never ever missed meat. I never liked it anyway, I think it has a weird texture, a weird smell and practically no taste at all, and I can't believe I ever put a piece of a dead animal in my mouth. Good luck! :)

Yes. Food provides a sense of connectedness within our culture.
Sunday mornings, my mom made bacon and eggs. It was one of the few things we all enjoyed, and we woke up to the smell and family stuff.
When I stopped eating meat, I was no longer a part of that.
On Thanksgiving I was harassed by my uncle as he said rude and heartless things.
I would go to business lunches, and then instead of small-talk, lunch became *ask the vegetarian.* What part of "No I don't because fish is an animal" didn't they understand??
But I became more confident, comfortable and knowledgeable about my lifestyle. I became more calm and realized how misguided they were.
One Thanksgiving my grandma and mom brought veggie-dishes and they had talks with my uncle to stop being so rude to me. He didn't of course, but that brought a new and far greater sense of connectedness with my family than I had before. They showed great love and respect by doing that for me.
People ask me questions now, but I stop them if the conversation gets rude.
That was why I was sad, and things got better, AND I didn't sacrifice my beliefs or my concept of the person I wanted to be.
I was also sad for a while because I missed the taste of meat... since then I found many great replacements.
p.s. No, there is nothing in meat that you can't get from veggies.
You can get your B12 from nutritional yeast.

Well first of all congrats on taking a stand against animal cruelty and making the right decision for your body. Being a vegetarian means that you will take a whole new approach on food. You are eating to survive. Food should not be that important in your life. Also try eating 5 small meals throughout the day instead of three big ones and snack on healthy foods in between to keep up your energy. Protein is what you are lacking and after getting it in meat for however long youve been eating it, your body is just adjusting to lower levels daily. Try eating more protein rich foods and take a multi-vitamin if you continue to feel weak. Its justa phase you will be fine in no time. Also make sure you dont focus on the fact that you dont eat much..its just that..Good luck

The first few times I attempted to go veg, I became rather sad, and missed ribs and bacon and such, I went back to eating meat. I agree with the other posters; I think you may need to reconsider your motivation behind becoming a vegetarian, and whether you really want to continue down this path. It isn't always easy, but if you really want to, it's well worth the effort.

I was sad because most restaurants don't offer veggie options, so it is hard to get a good meal with the side items I want, since they always come with a main course that is a meat dish.

Probably not. It takes 21 days to get used to new habits, or so I've read.
Whether or not you like to eat meat, it can provide an enticing flavor to dishes, and perhaps that is what you miss?
Give it 60 days before you decide if this is what you want, and if it still makes you feel somehow different. Maybe your body is still adjusting?

LOL! I think Vampire's answer is funny.
In truth, I think very many people who go vegetarian once they discover the horrible treatment of animals in factory farms face a grieving process.
I didn't experience it myself. But I have seen it. You are grieving for both the animals in their deplorable conditions and your own loss of innocence.
We want to believe that this world is a lovely place and that everything is good and beautiful. But it just isn't so. There is a deep sense of grief tied to that.
Don't lose heart. We can change the world!

Your body might have developed a dependency on the hormones that are put in meat, and right now your body is detoxing since you aren't taking in those hormones anymore.
