had a stress test, doctor says it shows blockage of some kind and i need to have a cath and a stent but maybe more than that, when i tried to ask for details he said i don't have the answers and so i see another doctor on friday but am scared to death, can anybody explain these terms and what it entails?

Usually they give you something to calm you (like Valium) and a local anaesthetic in the groin area near the leg, where they make a small incision to insert a catheter that goes up thru the femoral vein (i think it is vein) into the heart. The catheter can have a stent with it, which is a small round tube that helps to keep a blocked blood vessel in the heart more open. I saw someone go thru it once. Usually the tranquilizer is enough so you are awake, but groggy. You shouldn't have any pain or discomfort and hopefully it will all go well. Anytime you are working on the heart, it is serious stuff, but without a stent, a heart attack could happen and then you have permanent heart damage. Once heart muscle dies from a heart attack, it doesn't rebuild the damaged tissue.Try not to worry. Just have everyone say a little prayer for you, just to help everything go well..

I believe that a stent in something they insert to hold open the artery. A heart Cath is a catherization. It is the procedure they do to get a look at your heart and arteries with the help of dye that is injected into you by means of the cath. it is usually inserted into your groin artery and passed up to your heart. They will numb you or give you a twilight anesthesia (sp) to help you relax. There have been millions of both procedures done and there is some risk but you should be fine.

You just became a heart patient and have a blockage that could cause a heart attack. He does not want you to worry, because stress is bad for the heart. They take a tube with a small camera and run it up beside your groin and take a good luck at your heart. A stint is put in the blood vessel to unblock, for blood to be able to flow to the heart. It's a good thing that he caught it before you had a heart attack and suffered more damage. Good Luck

I had a cath and a stenth put in and its no big deal.They give you a local just to knock you out just enough so you dont freak out,make a small cut in your groin aera and run a small whire in to your artiry and look for blockages and if needed they put in a metal mesh and its done..Then they put you on Plavix,Toperal and baby aspern the rest of your life,so hope that you have insurance cause the meds are very expensive..
