I'm Pakistani. That's pretty close to Indian. Infact almost the same. It's really hard to choose ONE dish that you'll ike so instead branch out and try samplers of everything. You've got to try these out: Butter chicken, karahi chicken, chicken badami Qourma, Achar gosht, Chicken Biryani, Zeera pulao, Palak paneer, Kofta, mixed vegetable, Indian curry, khatti daal, maash daal. Trust me, there's too much to choose from. Oh & as an alternative, hop on a plane & come over to my place. My mum makes the bestest Pakistani food EVERR! :D
Oh and try the naans [bread]. Roghni naan, they're the best thing ever.

Most good Indian restaurants have a sampler plate of some kind. It might be an hors d'oerve sampler. Unless you have a monstrous appetite, that should be pretty good for the first time trying Indian food. Indian restaurants have both vegetarian and meat menus, so you are covered whichever way you swing on that count. The food can be spicy, so ask your waitperson if you are concerned.
Enjoy!

It looks like alot, but it is usually meant to be shared. I am not saying order all of it, but these are just my persoanl recommendations. You can pick & choose what you like... just ENJOY!
Always ask your waiter for his recommendations, some restaurants specialize in certain dishes & the chef's specials are usually good.

This is my favorite question! LOL I love Indian food. My faves are Chicken Tikka Masala.. which is chicken in a creamy tomatoe-y sauce with spices.. i'd tell them mild if you are not familiar with Indian food.also.. The Chicken Palak is chicken in a spinach/spice thing. These are served with Basmati rice and rawk!! The Naans are really good too. They are Indian breads.. The Cheese Naan and the Garlic Naan are my faves.
Enjoy!!

if they have dosa, order masala dosa as your meal. it is usually in south indian section. or just order chicken curry or vindaloo with bread basket ( nan, poori, paratha). try potatoe samosa as your appetizer. don't order biriyani b/c they usually cook it easy way, never been cook like traditional. how about some sweet lassi to drink (yogurt drink). for dessert, falooda (very rarely carry by indian restu.), kulfi (ask them if it is from the tube or just ice cream way meaning scope) don't take it if it is scope b/c it's not traditional, and lastly rasmali (sweet indian milk ball).

You can't go wrong with the butter chicken. And it is much healthier than it sounds.
