The only way to check the nature of this rhythm problem is probably to see a cardiologist and get either a 24 hour ECG (EKG) which records for the full day and will pick up and allow identification of a problem if it happens at least once during the trace, or what is called a cardio-memo. This is left with the patient for a week, if the problem is less frequent, and the patient turns it on when the feel the palpitations. All these tests are harmless painless and non-invasive.
Usually a resting ECG(EKG) and a thyroid, full blood count, electrolyte check is done first by your family doctor.

I am a registered nurse and the palpitations your are talking about need to be evaluated by a cardiologist. I have had three children and never had palpitations.Last year I had open heart surgery at 48 years old for an ascending aortic annurysm.I never knew that I had a bicuspid aortic valve. You need to be evaluated by a cardiologist so you can get to the bottom of this problem. Good luck.......

Make and appointment to see you GP asap. People can during stressful periods of the life have hart palpitations normally they don't cause any discomfort, however if they are frequent you need to get it checked out.
The GP will probably supply you with a portable tape recorder that will monitor your heart rate for 24 hours and will identify any irregularities you may have.

It could just be anxiety giving you those runs of irregular heart beats. See your primary care physician. He will want to find out if your irregular beats are SVT or something worse like AFib.
OH, i see you said child birth was stress free. Well, perhaps you are mentally not stressed, that doesnt mean your body isn't.

unlikely to be anything to worry about, but you shoud go to the GP and get it checked - they will llikely do and ECG on you - a simple stickers on the chest type of heart beat monitor that takes 2 minutes to get a result. The doctor will be able to see exactly how your heart is beating, and whether anything else should be done.
Now you have a child, you must look after yourself - it is important!

There are many causes of this, which include: stress/anxiety, thyroid disease, high blood pressure, side-effects of some drugs, consuming caffeine, smoking,
drinking excess alcohol ,low levels of potassium in the blood (hypokalaemia)
Sometimes there may be no known cause. You should see your Doctor for a correct diagnosis.

See your doctor soon as possible. My mother has the same thing and it is caused by something like a valve that doesn't close right or something. See your doctor.

I have no idea if this is a result of childbirth or whatever, has i am too young to know. But my Dad has heart problems and recently i experienced chest problems. The best advice i can give is to ring your GP and get them to either check you over or refer you to a specialist.
