I’m having an hors d’oeurves/buffet dinner party for my husband. I usually always serve kid friendly food, but this time I want to serve more “sophisticated” food – food that most small kids won’t eat. I thought about ordering the kids a pizza. Is this rude? Would I be offending anyone by insinuating that the kids can’t eat the grown-up food, and should eat pizza instead?

P.S. – And, no, I can’t make it an “adults only” party.

If the grown ups have kids - then they will understand and likely appreciate the fact that they aren't going to have to feed their kids later. Kids are picky, and I have yet to see a kid not like pizza. I am sure there are SOME that won't - but well, you can't please everyone all the time! ;)

Go for the pizza -

If you WANT to have hors d'oeurves and you want to make the kids happy too - get a box of mini pizza rolls, mini corn dogs, chicken nuggets, and/or maybe some mini taquito things and set up a "Kids Table" - it can be part of the party, but just put a kids only sign on there ;) It would go with the theme and there is a bit more variety - say for the lactose intolerant tykes or the picky eaters.

Pizza would be fine, I am sure the adults who have kids know that getting their kids to eat something called a pate or other things they can't even pronounce would be impossible, so they wouldn't be offended. I am sure that those same parents would be grateful that you got something that their kids WILL eat so they don't need to worry about how long they stay cause their kid didn't like the hors d'oeurves that you were serving and they didn't eat or whined about it the entire party. Humm, do you think I have children that would do this???

I thknk pizza is fine and I agree with Michele F, why not cutting the pizza into shapes with a biscuit cutter and serving them on a platter so the kids have a little party too.

You could also cook some chicken nuggets and serve them around a bowl filled with tomato sauce (or whatever).

Give them a dessert too, like cookies or brownies and they will love it.

Set up a little table just for them with their food on it, and a special drink just for them, so they still feel like part of the party.

You wouldn't be offending anyone! Parents understand the kid-food thing and would appreciate the thought, time and money you invested to accommodate the tastes of their kids. Yes, get the pizza. Another big hit would be pigs in the blanket. I served them last year at a little party and the kids went nuts. Who knew?

I went to a fancy party where the adults had plenty of fancy food and the kids had their own food. The adults kept sneaking in to the kids' area to steal their chicken nuggets and fries. Don't worry about offending anyone, worry about the grown-ups eating all the pizza!

There are plenty of dishes that seem"sophisticated" that kids love. Finger sandwiches with crust cut off, pigs in a blanket, but it is NOT rude to do pizza on the side, just don't be surprised when your guests crave the pizza more than your stuffed mushrooms.

I think thats fine. Nobody should be affended but make sure you make the pizza an option for the kids. So if they want to try the "adult" food they can.
You can also serve them hot dogs and rice or burgers and fries.

If the kids don't like the grown-up stuff, then sure, why not have a pizza for them? I've never seen any problems with that.

I think that would be fine. You can ask the pizza place not to cut it and then cut it yourself into little sqaures and putting it out on plates as kids d'oeurves. Add a couple other kid friendly things, grapes ect. there and have one side be for kids and one side be for adults.
