My dad was diagnosed with IHSS 13 years ago they put a pace maker in to help slow the problem with the heart. One year ago his heart rate went to over 200 and we almost lost him they put a pacemaker/defibulator combo in his chest. I know he's really sick but could he live 40 more years with this..They said he is a severe case. He is only 43 years old. I just wish this was all a bad dream that we could all wake up from.

IHSS (Idiopathic Hypertrophic Subaortic Stenosis) is when the wall (septum) between the two ventricles (pumping chamber) becomes enlarged and obstructs the blood flow from the left ventricle. The syndrome is known as hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (H.O.C.M.) or asymmetric septal hypertrophy (A.S.H.). But it's also called I.H.S.S..
So sorry to read about your dad. My father died of a heart attack several years ago and I remember the day as if it were yesterday. If only we could turn back the hands of time. I wish that I had spent more quality time with my father. Don't let that be your regret, too.

There is really no definate answer. Just keep praying and appreciate every moment that you have. I'm sorry that you are going through this. My advice would be, don't worry about how long he has left. Just enjoy the time now. If you spend all of your time worrying, you won't be able to enjoy! I know...easier said than done. Good luck and best wishes to him.
