I went into diabetic ketone acidosis in late Jan my blood sugar was 799. I have lost about 50 pound just by diet and excercise but for some reason twice a week I get up to around 270 and then I drop to 70 or under in less than a hour. They say theres nothing wrong with my meds.

I've heard this from others who were recently diagnosed. Keep working at it. Apparently, the body's mechanisms are still adjusting to the new diet/exercise routine. Once, you reach your "ideal" weight and everything settles down, I think you'll find the swings will become less severe. Check out my diabetes info page and see if anything there helps. I've managed to get things pretty stable. In fact, I've gone several days without Metformin and my blood sugar is quite stable. My recent HbA1C was 5.8. Here's more:

I realize that conventional health care is necessary and appropriate. That having been said, there are also many things WE can do to overcome type II diabetes, and improve life as a Type I diabetic. I've been researching alternative medicine, and the amount of help that's available to diabetics is amazing.

Natural remedies are quite effective, and include:

Cinnamon
Bitter Melon

I am not a medical professional,and i am assuming you are type two . From my own experience i found that the meds caused me more trouble than they were worth.You are already making great efforts to help yourself,just continue to be diligent.Get down to your recommended weight, go for a fast 1/2 hour walk every day and ask your doctor if you can try keeping in control without meds.Make your meals from poultry,fish lean beef, home made no pre packaged(no deli) green salads,eggs bacon(no sugar or maple cured) Whole GRAIN Bread, one slice morning and night.tea,coffee with Lactose free milk 1/2 teaspoon Demera sugar.If you want to do even better walk for 1/2 hour after each meal at a brisk pace.Check your blood sugar when you get home.

There are a lot of factors left out of your question. Are you type one or type two? Are you taking medications or on insulin? Many things can cause your blood sugar to go high and then plummet. If you are exercising your blood sugar can drop dramatically in just an hour or less.

My suggestion would be to talk to your doctor and see if they could do a continuous glucose monitoring on you. You may see a pattern due to the times your eating and taking your meds or your exercise.

Are you on any doctor's medication?. Even if you are you can try Cogent db+, a supplement that has helped many diabetics keep the sugar down. My mom's on it to prevent diabetes. Her parents were both diabetic. Visit www.sindor.com

Has anyone run a GLucose Tolerance Test on you? It's all about how your body proceses what you eat with how much insulin you are taking...I am assuming you are on insulin. If not, then it's your pancreas that is taking it's signals from your carb intake and how active you are. But be sure to get a GTT if you haven't had one...that's where the answers are.

you may need a combonation insulin med. i was gestational diabetic type 1 and it took me two weeks to really find the right dose and type. it takes time, ask the doctor or endocrinologists.
