Here's my ordeal. I'm 26 & I haven't had sex since June. I think I suffer with OCD because I'm extremely obsessed with my health. I took an HIV Test in October and in December, even though I'm not having sex, because i'm so obsessed with "God Forbid I get sick". I plan on taking another one soon, however I started feeling sick on Saturday. I got a flu shot last year, and I work out regulary, so I dont understand why I'm feelin sick. I started to get a fever and chills, but no sore throat or cold or anything. Am I obsessing that it could be something like HIV when I could just be stressing out? No I don't share needles and I'm not sexually active (last time was June). I also have a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning to find out. Am I obsessing?

Obsessing...maybe, but I think you are truly fearful. HIV doesn't start out with a fever etc. You probably have a viral or bacterial infection in one of your organ systems...urinary, respiratory, sinus? Try and be relieved when these tests are negative. Also, I would recommend you getting involved with something that will take your mind off yourself. I frequently advise my patients to volunteer at the local animal shelter...feeding, washing or playing with cats and dogs. They are the forgotten in our society, and have no idea why...that is if you like pets.

It does appear that you have exaggerated anxiety over your health. This sort of thing could be a symptom of OCD, but it may also be part of a general anxiety problem, or hypochondria. Its not too important to put a label on the problem - the main thing is that you recognize that some of your worries are not really warranted, and it sounds like you want to deal with this in a better way.

Discuss your concerns about OCD with your doctor - maybe you can make the visit more about your anxiety than treating you for a cold or flu. When the receptionist or doc first ask you why you are there, tell them first about your OCD concerns, and then the problems with a cold or flu.

All-in-all, your obsessing doesn't seem too far out of the ordinary, so it should be relatively easy to get on track with some good guidance and a little effort.

Many people having the flu shot still get the flu, as you have 300 strains of Flu virus, but the shot only protects you against 3 strains, so I think you have the flu and not Aids. Don't forget we are in the Flu season.
I always get the flu shot and always get the flu for 10 heavy sick days.
The year I don't get that shot, I don't get sick.

Its all in you're head, you probably just have a small cold. You will be fine in no time, no these symptoms don't sound like HIV but was the sex that you had in July protected? You are most likely fine. Good luck

i just had hiv testing for the first time in february. it was negative. before i was tested i was making myself sick over the possibility of being infected. something important for you to realize is that hiv is asymptomatic...you won't know by feeling sick; it's something else.
but i can sympathize with your worry. you've been tested and you're negative. the next time to worry is when you've engaged in a risky behavior. till then, chill.

Was the sex you have had protected? If so, I wouldn't worry to much.......there is a lot of people sick with upper and lower respiratory stuff. Just get checked out to ease your worry.
