I've had kinda high blood pressure for about a year now. It's usually between 135 and 150 on the top part. How long does it take for your blood pressure to do something serious to your body like give you heart failure or something like that? I'm 20 by the way.

Hello. I'm 23 with blood pressure problems also I'm a nurse practitioner. You have to go on for years in order for your blood pressure to get like really out of wack and also for u to get a heart attack or stroke.
Also if u don't want to get on any medications try eatting 2 bananas a day don't over do it. To much is not good for u. Eat something with magnesium in a day. Also take fish oil but make sure u get the one that has all of the toxic out of them. Make sure u eat 3 meals a day. Drink well. Keep ya stress under control as well as anxiety. The fish oil helps with mood and alot of other things.Well these time and days I guess your not to young for anything. Because I had mines every since I was 19.lol
I just got on something at 21. Girl, don't let no one scare u up about high blood pressure u can live with it.

It's an ongoing process, but it's not healthy to have high blood pressure, period. You might first try diet and exercise, which you'll find helps your blood pressure and makes you feel better in general. Medicine can also make a dramatic difference if diet/exercise aren't sufficient. Depending on whether you pressures are closer to 150 or 135 most of the time, your doc might prescribe you something. The first-line meds are pretty cheap and harmless.

Provided there isn't some underlying disease causing you high blood pressure, at your age, it can be brought down very rapidly (within a month or two) by proper diet and regular exercise if you are not over-weight. It takes a little longer if you are over-weight, since blood pressure is related to weight and it takes a little while to shed pounds safely. If you did nothing but started taking a 20 minute walk everyday, you would probably begin to see some results in as little as 2 weeks.

It seems high to me for your age. Have you been to a doctor? Better have a check up to be sure. You might be prescribed medication to lower it.
