It is hard for him to breathe and he has to constantly keep on the nose strips when he is at home. He had an operation two years ago to remedy this, but it has re-occurred and he is miserable. He now is experiencing a very stiff neck up into the back lower portion of his head. Is this from his sinuses or is there a such thing as arthritis in the neck area? I wonder if he should go to an orthopedic specialist after a good ear, nose, and throat specialist?

Stiffness and pain in the neck, face, shoulders, scalp, can all be caused by infected or inflamed sinuses. Usually when things get that bad, it has to be attacked on several fronts: (1) antibiotics, (2) decongestant and expectorant (sudafed & mucinex), and (3) relieving muscle spasms and tightness.

The family doc can take care of the antibiotics, and the other meds can be purchased at any drug store. I recommend going to chiropractor for the muscle spasms and tightness - they are good at this type of thing. If you are unfamiliar with chiropractors or even a little suspicious, then look for a chiropractor that operates at a hospital or health clinic that includes doctors. Another alternative is a massage therapist.
