I had an abnormal pap and a biopsy and a colposcopy was done I am still waiting for the results. I have never had any warts of any kind...will I get them? and can I still get the vaccine?

I had a hpv test and a pap done at same time. I had abnormal cells probably resulting from HPV. A lot of types of HPV do not have warts as a symptom. The types without the warts are the high-risk ones for cervical cancer. I also had the biopsy done I had low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion. I am now getting paps every 6mo until I test normal 2x in row or if the cells change again. The vaccine is still recommended for women under the age of 26-but if you are over that age and see yourself being sexually active I believe you should still get(I think they say 26 for the reason that you are in a permanent relationship by then) The vaccine protects against 4 types of high risk HPV. My doctor told me there was no way to found our which one I was infected with, in my case it was just stated as a high risk one. I was told that you will always have HPV but it can go dormant or in remission.
To answer your question again unless you just got the HPV it is very unlikely you will get the warts-symptoms usually show soon after getting infected.

just because you have an abnormal pap smear, does not mean you have hpv. the very first time i got a pap smear and the followup time as well, mine were abnormal, which scared the crap out of me. it resulted in my having to get a biopsy, which was not pleasant as i'm sure you know. the biopsy turned out to show nothing was wrong. as my gynecologist explained to me, it's often normal for your pap smear to be slightly abnormal on occasion because your body changes all the time. it is only a problem if you have continual abnormal paps and of course, if further testing (i.e., biopsies) show something more.

i had the same thing happen 6years ago. had an abnormal pap had both of those procedures done. went back evrery 6 months for 2 years and still havnt had any warts or another abnormal pap. i guess depending on if u havnt had it long, maybe it was a misdiagnosis. i believe mine was. no signs or nothing. ive even had 3 children naturally.

there are about 100 strains of HPV, not all of them give you warts. Sometimes HPV clears on its own, too. Last year i was found abnormal, this year i am normal.
