As long as everything is sterile there shouldn't be a problem.

The only way you would get HIV from getting a tattoo is if they used the same needle to give another person who has HIV a tattoo. It's similar to getting HIV from sharing drug needles and syringes.

I am impressed with the posts here, especially for the fact that they are mostly wrong.

HIV is a weak, fragile, different to transmit virus, and it lives ONLY inside its normal host "human body" wheile becomes so weak and terminates almost instantly when goes out!

Tattoos are 100% "not even 99%" no risk of HIV transmission, unless the needle was covered with a "huge amount" of IV positive blood, with a considerably high viral load.

HIV "CANNOT" be transmitted this way, but you still have to worry about other viruses i.e. HCV which has the ability to live for a long time in a non human medium out of the human body.

Conclusion: Tattoos are not a risk of contracting HIV, period. End of story!

Make sure its a reputable business, ask around and see what other people say. You most definitely can get HIV and other diseases if the needles are not new or sterilized because the needles puncture the skin. Get it done at a real place, the risks are just too high.

If the tattoo artist uses the same needle on another person as they do on you, then you have to worry. Getting a tattoo is just as personal as unprotected sex and has the same danger. the machines that they use now are more efficient tan old tattoo techniques but they are far less safe.

Yes, If the needle is being re-used and if re-using ink as well can spread diseases, But Tattoo parlours Today have safe practices and they Have to abide safe health standards and policies. Watch miami ink and also look up proceedures for tattoos online, goodluck!

Yes you can, if the tattoo shop is using dirty needles you can get thousands of diseases. HOwever, they wont do this if you go to a credible tattoo shop so do your research, its a huge liability for them anyways so you really have nothing to worry about, they have to throw out needles after they use them one time.

It is entirely possible. You don't need to have the place reuse the needles...they need only not clean all the equipment or reuse the ink in the gun.

You should also be aware that Hepatitis is spread this way as well.

Go to a VERY reputable tattoo parlor (check with the better business bureau) and before you get colored go check them out. Watch how they do things...ask questions. Any place that won't answer your questions IN FULL or won't let you watch is NOT a place to go to.

Only if the needle was reused.
It is illegal for a tattoo parlor to reuse needles. Just ask the shop to let you watch them prepare your station...tell them you are nervous and they will have no problem with it. If they do, go somewhere else!

Good luck! I have 5 tats and used the same place everytime...the first time, I asked to watch them set up and they had no problem with it!

Its possible but not probable. These days, tattoo places have to have health department certification. Top cleaning, cleansing and area space to allow the studio to open and remain open.
I have 10 tatoos and I do not have HIV.
I wouldn't worry about HIV from tattoos
