Im almost 18. And I had open heart surgery when I was 4 years old and I was told I wouldn't be able to have kids. Well my heart got better around age 8/9 and I was told I was goona live a long, healthy, normal life and I would be able to have kids.

I haven't been the heart doctors in over 8 years. What kinda of steps would I take to get my heart checked to see If I can have kids?

Things have changed in medicine quite a bit since you had your heart surgery. The best way to find out is to go to a cardiologist and have the testing done that he asks for. You should probably be followed by a cardiologist throughout your pregnancy.
Lots of people have heart surgery and are able to have children these days. It just takes some monitoring.

What exactly was the nature of your heart surgery?

Do you ever turn cyanotic (blue)?

There is little reason that heart surgery in and of itself would prevent you from becoming pregnant.

Pregnancy and labor do put a big workload on the heart, though. What is your exercise tolerance? Can you walk up several flights of stairs? Can you jog a half mile? Can you count backwards from 100 by 7's? Oops, wrong question there...

Isn't 18 rather too early to think of this? In any case, you will need a total cardiac evaluation - Complete Blood Pciture, Lipid profile, resting ECG, 2D Echo, Stress test, and some more risk factors. Talk to your cardiologist.
