High Blood pressure is known as the silent killer because it has only a few symptoms, that can be easily ignored as other causes for these symptoms, they include dizziness, headache, nose bleeds, redness to the skin especially face. However these symptoms are not usually present until B/P is very high. The best way to determine high B/P, is to have a nurse or doctor check you. Top number should be 100-140 and bottom number between 60-90, but some are now saying 80. The bottom number is more of a factor than the top. When you have 3 readings of borderline readings, they usually start you on medicine. Borderline being 136/88, or 142/94 . When the bottom number is over 100, you will almost always be started on meds. Watch your salt intake, lose weight if you need and quit smoking to help decrease your risk. Good luck!

You should read "The Blood Pressure Solution" (also available in electronic format, watch the video presentation here: http://www.fixbloodpressure.com ) It's a very comprehensive step-by-step book that walks you through the natural remedies of high blood pressure. It provides you with a lot of information on what foods to eat, how you can acquire and prepare these foods, how you can change your lifestyle for the better, how to eliminate the toxins from your body, how to reduce stress, how you can check your blood pressure level the correct way etc.
The book is amazing in that it not only lowers your blood pressure without the help of medications; it also aids you in having a life that is healthy, happier, and less stressful. This book chanced my life.

Correct, the majority of patients have no symptoms. Most patients who present with headache, and turn out to have hypertension, never really had levels of blood pressure sufficient to explain the symptom, and it is probably coincidence. Other than routine checks at their GP, which are done much more frequently now, BP problems are now likely to be picked up at optician's eye checks, where the eye changes of hypertension are noted. Insurance medicals, chemists, or by patients who buy their own machines. There probably is a real increase in patients with hypertension, this is due to the decrease in patients living a healthy lifestyle, high salt, little exercise and obesity, but there is also probably a much higher pick up rate these days as well.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

High Blood Pressure or Hypertension is sometimes called "the silent killer" because you may not have ANY symptoms. You just wake up one morning and can't move. If any symptoms DO present themselves, they are usually mild to severe depending on how high your pressure is. These symptoms include: prolonged headache, dizziness, nausea and/or vomiting, shortness of breath and rapid heart rate. You also may have a change in mental status if your pressure is extremely high.

Symptoms of hypertension, you can get some idea from the answer below:
Usually, no symptoms are present. Occasionally, you may experience a mild headache. If your headache is severe, or if you experience any of the symptoms below, you must be seen by a doctor right away. These may be a sign of dangerously high blood pressure (called malignant hypertension) or a complication from high blood pressure.
* tiredness
* confusion
* vision changes
* angina-like chest pain (crushing chest pain)
* heart failure
* blood in urine
* nosebleed
* irregular heartbeat
* ear noise or buzzing

Mostly in the beginning you have no signs, later, as mentioned headaches, or red face...Easier to buy a blood pressure cuff and measure at home.The causes of high blood pressure are; infections, stress, not relaxed enough, not eating well, to much sodium, too much coffee and sodas, not enough water intake, hormonal imbalance, illnesses….you mention it. When you take your blood pressure; Sit still, relax for 5 minutes and do not talk. Visualize that your blood pressure is low. Nervousness before your blood pressure is taken, will influence your blood pressure negatively, which is called white coat syndrome. Be aware of medications, many medications have a side effect of raising your blood pressure. Check with your doctor.
I did a test with a 49 old gentleman, he had an infection in his lip, was stressed out because his wife is very sick, has bills to pay…etc. He had the same question so I took his blood pressure 155/98 too high. I asked him to relax and lay down for 5 minutes and no talk. I repeated the blood pressure again it was 144/89. I did EFT on him, Emotional Freedom Technique. Which takes me a minute? Simple easy acupressure points with affirmations. His blood pressure, still having his infection, came down in 2 ½ minutes to 136/73. He was so relieved and grateful. I have repeated this test with many high blood pressure patients and the result is still the same. See source for more recipes on high blood pressure and enjoy your life, learn EFT, to get a better life and you can save on trips to doctors, psychiatrist, counselors etc.

Blood pressure is indeed a cause for concern. If unchecked it often results in stroke. It is always wise to consult a physician especially if you parents suffered from it or if you are overweight. If you want to try out some home remedies you may perhaps visit this website which I found very informative and useful.
