DON'T DO IT!!! That would send asbestos buy the load into the air for him to inhale. He should tell his brother to contact a contractor to remove it properly or he could be seriously risking his health.

It seems to me that his brother knows better than to do something like this. I would tell him to thank his brother and yea he will do it just after his brother loads a 45mm, looks down the barrel, and pulls the trigger to see if the gun works.

Brilliant!

If you don't mind getting cancer caused by asbestos, by all means, take down the shed. If your health is important to you, then hire a professional abatement crew to remove the shed safely. Start by looking in the local phone book under the term "Asbestos". Or contact your local environmental agency in the "Government" section of the phone book. You can also ask your local law enforcement officers for some advice and direction. These are just a few ideas and I am sure other people will have many more, but in any case, do not disturb the asbestos in any way. You want to leave it alone until the right people with the correct equipment and knowledge can safely and properly dispose of it. The health of your family is much more important than anything else. Make sure your brother is aware of the dangers of the situation. He might be a pain sometimes, but I am sure you would rather have him live a long and healthy life than to risk it all for a shed. Good luck.

No no No no No. I can be deadly in 20 years,, and he won't even see it coming. The fibers that cause the form of cancer are smaller than a human hair in diameter. To be safe he would need a full respiratory suit, and have to drench the shed with water continuously. Let me repeat, there is no "safe minimum exposure amount" or "acceptable exposure amount or limit" with asbestos. Tell your brother in law to hire professionals or do it himself,,, if he does,, make sure he really wets down the whole project from start to finish.

firstly if the shead itself is made of asbestos, i.e big sheets then it is safe to take it to bits, the problem with asbestos is when it is in dust form. i.e when used for insulation or when being cut up or broken up. the little fibres it is made of are like mini fish hooks and catch in the lining of the lungs when breathed in. if you do not smash it up or cut it up it is safe to handle so long as it stays in its full sheet.
however what you will need is someone to dispose of the sheets of asbestos properly. most companies will need a special licence to take it on the public road.
some town rubbish tips have special skips for disposing of small amounts of asbestos, but if its a whole shed you will probably need a refuse company to take it away.

I am not sure where you are from but in Australia and The UK it is illegal to knock down and dispose of structures known to contain asbestos. You will need to employ a company specialised in the safe removal of the shed.

He should get a professional in to remove it most importantly because of both their health but mainly because asbestos is so dangerous that if they are caught just throwing it away they will most definitely be fined but could also be charged for endangering other people lives

NO. My son is a trained asbestos removal person and he has to wear special fitted face masks, etc etc. Teh danger comes from the fibres from the asbestos as it is broken up - you can live with it in its finished state with no harm, but when the fibres are broken, they enter your lungs.
Call in the professionals. You'll need a surveyor.

Are you kidding? Neither of them should do it. That stuff is extremely dangerous. His brother needs to call in a professional team that knows how to safely dispose of the place. I don't care how well protected your husband thinks he is, he isn't trained in asbestos removal procedure. If I were you, I'd pull the "I'm your wife and I forbid you" card. Trust me, you'd be doing him a favor.

No way! it is important that this is done by one of the firms that specialise in asbestos removal. They will have the appropriate protective clothing. There are plenty to be found in the Yellow Pages.

Sure, go ahead and let him do it!

Just make sure your life insurance is paid up! In a few years you'll get to pick out a new husband and you and he can travel on all the insurance money you'll be getting!

Or, you could just call a professional asbestos removal company if you want to keep the current husband.

Good Luck!
