Probably some lab tech who was tired of looking for other uses for all of the excess blood they'd drained from diabetics world-wide.

Hemoglobin A1C is probably the most useless blood test in the entire world anyway. If you're a dedicated diabetic (unlike myself!), then a three-month overview of blood sugar range is a waste of time, because you keep accurate records of the daily blood testing.

I don't know who came up with it, but it makes me mad cause I can't cheat my way out now!!! Those darn A1Cs rat us out!!
