Hi, I am supposed to be having a c section this wensday, a while ago the doc told me i have a choice to go natrual or have the c section ( depends on if theres an outbreak) i chose to go with the c section for the saftey of my child. but recently did some research and decided to go natrual if there isnt an outbreak, now... i already have a 2 yr old son and didnt find out i had herpes until he was about 1 yr old., i have only had one outbreak ever and that was over a year ago. the last few days my vagina had be very itchy,. not around the "hole" but more so around the lips area, and i had a shower and shaved down there and it did hurt a bit... and later on when i went pee it burned a little bit. its not so bad now but its still there,, i take very good care of my hiegene so i know its not because i am dirty.. could it be possible that i clean too well and using too much soap? and... what will the doc do? go on with the c section worrying that it may be a slight herpe outbreak or not?

Hello!
I understand how you feel. I've done my share of reseach on STD-mainly genital herpes. The doctor will opt that you have the birth naturally if there are no lesions present. If they are present, the doctor will do preparations for an emergency C-section. So I think it just depends on what you want to do. Are you more comfortable with having the baby naturally or would you rather schedule the C-Section? Your doctor will thoroughly examine you with blood tests and cultures before you have your child to see if your antigen count is high (meaning you're having an outbreak). I personally know people who've had genital herpes and didn't have their first outbreak until it was time to deliver. That's when they did the emergency C-Section. And about your itchy vagina, it could possibly be a yeast infection. Pregnant women get yeast infections way more than unpregnant women. The soap and shaving are probably irritating you--it may even caused you to get a yeast infection. But don't worry--the doctor will take all the precautions necessary to insure that you will have a wonderful, beautiful baby. If you are concerned about your itching, you may want to call your doctor and tell him/her about your symptoms. May God bless you to have a wonderful delivery!

About half of the people who have recurrent outbreaks of genital herpes feel an outbreak coming a few hours to a couple of days before it happens. They may feel tingling, burning, itching, numbness, tenderness, or pain where the blisters are going to appear. This is called the prodrome. It may be possible that you are experiencing prodrome and you might have an outbreak soon.

If you have any doubts or concerns you should definitely go with a C-section. Genital herpes is rarely passed to a baby during birth, but you would hate for your little baby to contract the virus from you. Herpes can be deadly for infants. It's always better to be safe than sorry! Good luck to you!
