I had the same problem. Turns out they were made from cheap southern yellow pine.
What you need is a good set of chopsticks made of applewood or hickory. Not too heavy or too light.
I prefer 2 ounce chopsticks as the 1 ounce are too light and 3 ounce ones are too heavy.
Check for straightness by rolling on counter top.
Look for ICMA (International Chopstick Manufacturers Association) stamp of approval on packaging or a dragonhead emblem on the actual sticks themselves.
Go to an Asian market and ask for them using these tips. Don't let them pawn off inferior grade chopsticks on you, they will never work correctly.
They will respect your knowledge of chopsticks and treat you accordingly
Hope this helps!.

you are holding them wrong. your bottom stick should rest in the crook of your thumb and first finger and rest on the ring finger. the top stick is placed between your first finger and your thumb and rest kinda on the middle finger. NEVER move your thumb it should stay stationary. your first finger and the top stick do all the moving. practice practice practice my 3 year old uses them. i have been teaching him this for a year so you should get it tonight

I really dont think that they dont work.... I think that it might be you... I grew up using chopsticks... and I can eat with any type of chopsticks that are put in front of me... I used to eat with metal ones...
Maybe you should look for instructions on how to properly use them...

because you probably don't hold them correctly.you r supposed to keep one of them placed permanently between the thumb and the index finger and then the other one keeps moving with only your index finger.i hope that helped.that is the way my friend said it when she taught me.
