There are no official herbal treatments for diabetes.
Some people may find relief from some herbs but there is no proof yet.
If it helps you, then great but do NOT go off any prescribed meds.

I realize that conventional health care is necessary and appropriate. That having been said, there are also many things WE can do to overcome type II diabetes, and improve life as a Type I diabetic. I've been researching alternative medicine, and the amount of help that's available to diabetics is amazing.
Natural remedies are quite effective, and include:
Cinnamon
Bitter Melon
Gymnema Sylvestre
Nopal cactus
American Ginseng
Fenugreek
Chromium picolinate
Cinnamon regulates glucose, and has a polyphenol compound called MHCP that mimics insulin and activates cell receptor sites. A quarter teaspoon twice daily makes a difference. Fenugreek increases blood flow and inhibits the growth of infectious organisms. Everything on the list has a use in fighting diabetes. Learn how to use these herbs and don't fall victim to diabetes needlessly. You can find out about about them on line, or in a book I read cover to cover--
"One Son's Quest for the Cause and Cure of Diabetes", ISBN 7890766313
The author, a doctor, lost his mother to diabetes and spent the next 20 years finding a way to overcome it. My brother was dying of diabetes, and I was just starting to need insulin when we came across this definitive work which came out in February 2005. We both lead mostly normal lives now. It's a life saver, and the best money you'll ever spend on the subject if you decide to go that way.
You might want to check Abe Books, Alibri's, or Amazon.com for a good used copy cheap. I bought mine new, and I think it was about $35. I don't get any money from anybody for telling you this--just want to help, and the techniques in this book is what made the difference for me and mine. Best of luck.
Just recently found this 8-minute non-profit video http://www.rawfor30days.com/view.html , about diabetes diet. Click on the link, then click 'View Windows Media' to watch it.You'll be glad you saw it.

"Research shows that cinnamon does improve type 2 diabetics' ability to respond to insulin, thus helping to normalize blood sugar levels. Compounds in cinnamon stimulate insulin receptors while at the same time inhibiting an enzyme that deactivates them, thus significantly improving the cells' ability to use glucose. Studies have shown that less than half a teaspoon per day reduces blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. In testing, even when participants added sweets to their diets, cinnamon was able to help control their blood levels. This amount of cinnamon also significantly lowers LDL cholesterol and triglycerides."

*******As for Bob's comment: With natural products like Cinnamon, Garlic, Cayenne Pepper, etc. no pharmaceutical company could actually make money. Once people started realizing what was in the product, they would just go out and get some from their grocery store. Pharmaceutical companies make money on the premise that THEIR product works best. Cinnamon is cinnamon-anybody can get it. The FDA doesn't evaluate and regulate herbal remedies because there is no money in it. The demand for herbs does not exceed the supply-which is what is needed in order for pharmaceutical companies to make money. Natural products are far too available. Some supplement companies (not pharmaceutical) offer combinations of certain herbs that make it easier for people to get the herbs-but you can still get the herbs and make your own combination. You can't do that with Pepcid and Xanax. Bottom line-there is no way for pharmaceutical companies to make money off of God's natural healers. That doesn't mean that herbs do not work. It just means that we don't have to go to the doctor to get them.

There are several blends available on the market. One is Diamoxal and another is Blood Sugar Formula by Vitabase. they are pretty similar except Diamaxol is really expensive. They won't cure diabetes - no herb will, but they do help control some people's numbers. You can compare them here http://www.vitabase.com/supplements/information/diamaxol_compare.aspx They contain alot of the herbs mentioned earlier - cinnamon, guggul, gymnema sylvestra, chromium

If you want to read about a different scientific approach to cure your diabetes I recommend this online resource http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=549
I think that diabetes is a chronic disease (the system asserts that you could reverse your diabetes in 3 weeks) but that said the book is very interesting and "inspiring". It's always good to have different perspectives. Check it out I'm sure you'll find interesting too.

With the newer types of insulin these days, diabetic diets aren't necessarily as restrictive as they used to be. Read here https://tr.im/diabetestreatment
As with any medicine or diet change, you should discuss it with your doctor. Fruits, both fresh and dried, have a natural sugar in them that will raise blood sugar levels, so be careful about eating too much. Not sure about the nuts. Moderation is always the key. I've been diabetic for 18 years and just recently changed insulin types. I love it because it gives me more freedom in when and what I eat.
