My son has been sick many many times over the past year and the Doctor is finally starting to run tests. I think it may be a poor immue system. I forgot to mention to his doctor that my sister has RH factor blood and was born with mild retardation and very bad immunity, The doctors never really found why she was born that way or what is wrong with her. I didn't think it was that important. His doctors can't find what is wrong with him.
Anyways, I have A+ blood and his father I think has B or AB blood I was wondering what the odds are that my son will have AB blood with RH factor and if it would cause his immune system to fail consistantly.
If anyone knows anything about blood types please contact me and let me know if RH factor would effect an immune system in an adult and what the chances are that my son would have AB with RH factor blood.

SUPERBIRD, you are an Idiot, it's Sunday. Doctors office isn't open on Sunday. I ask you people because I want to know now and don't want to wait to find out. Not to mention the fact that I don't know if RH factor is something they have to test for or if it's something that automatically shows up. It's possible they know already if he is or not in that case and there is no reason for me to take the day off work to go down there and talk to them about it.

My son is four years old and has been sick on a consistant basis for about three months now running fevers every other day. He has been rushed to the emergancy room four times in the past two months with fevers up to 104.5 and rarely below 101.5

I;m no doctor or anything, I jsut took some bio classes, but from what I know, having a high RH factor can be associated with autoimmune disorders. However, these disorders are usually indicative of an overactive immune system not a weak one. As far as I know there is no connection between blood type and immunity other than issues concerning organ donation. How many times was he sick and how old is he? It takes time for an immune system to develop, it may just be a coincidence that he has been sick many times this year.

Based on what you say, I highly doubt it is an immune disorder. those things don't usually show up out of the blue. However, the doctors should get some very useful information from a complete blood test. If the blood test is normal, it is probably not something serious. Good luck, I really hope your pediatrician gets to the bottom of tis.

1) Wish your son the best of health

2) RH factor is the antigen responsible for the + in the blood group .... and no its has got nothing to do with weak immunity. The only problem it can cause if you were a - other than that nothing.

3) Family history of his aunt, maybe significant of having an immune deficiency, but it has got nothing to do with blood groups.

4) The chance of him being AB, depends on you and the father, it goes like this:

A B (father)
(you)
A AA AB
A AA AB

OR

A B
A AA AB
O A B

If the father is B, it gets pretty tricky ... many possibilities since you can be (AO or AA) and he can be (BB or BO) so ...... try to find it your self :D

Hope this will answer question.
