I am a licensed Respiratory Therapist and seeing as though you have been on steroids and have had some relief with it, I am going to say you probably have some inflammation going on. Bronchitis is just that, "inflammation of the bronchial" (airways). With Asthma it is possible that something is setting it off ie: animals, the weather, or even stress. I would suggest that you go to the doctor and ask for Advair as this is one of the best medications around for preventing reoccurring bronchitis and Asthma attacks. It can be expensive but works.

It is unwise to take over the counter cough medicines when you have asthma. You need an appointment with an allergy specialist but in the meantime I would buy a hypoallergenic mattress cover a hypoallergenic pillow and a HEPA air cleaner for your bedroom.
I agree with the comment about steroid use, the possibility of side effects increase the longer you use them. To replace the steroid pills you should have a steroid inhaler and a rescue inhaler.
good luck

I suffer with Chronic Bronchitis and Asthma. If you do not have an Inhaler, your Doctor needs to prescribe one for you. You need to use it at least 4 times a day. It will open up the air passages for easier breathing. I have also found out from my Doctor, sleeping with a Cool Mist Humidifier beside my bed, really helps alot.. Hang In There.

I am a respiratory therapist AND an asthmatic. I started taking Singulair and have not had to take steroids since......I used to have really bad episodes. One year I was hospitalized 10 times! I have not taken steroids or had to go to the ER one time since I started on Singulair. Ask your doctor about it, it really works. The only thing is you have to take it every day. It is a preventative medicine. I hardly even have to use my rescue inhaler anymore. Good luck.

You need to stop with the steroids you are not supposed to stay on them for long periods. I have deathly bad asthma. I always carry albuterol with me. Everynight I take singulair and 2x a day i take advair. It does help.

was your illness weather related? Both of my children usually get bad sick every winter so I have started using honey. If you can find honey that comes from close to where you live it is better. Honey has natural antibodies against a lot of pollens that make us sick. I learned this when I lived in New Mexico from an indian woman, my lil girl was deathly sick. I started giving her honey a couple times a day--a tbs-- and she gat well soon. It eased her difficult breathing tremendously.

> how come ur doctor didnt prescribe you with a bronchodilator? contact him/her and request for a prescription of bronchodilator.
> nebulization is important.
> get plenty of rest.
> drink lots of clear fluids to loosen up the secretions.
> avoid allergens/pollutants.
> if your WBCs are normal, then the cause of your bronchitis is not bacterial. thats why the antibiotics didnt help. your bronchitis might be viral.
> consult a pulmonologist.

It could be that you have an allergy. The most common allergy is Housedust mite.....which are tiny bugs , that are in every pillow , quilt and bed. They survive by eating flakes of skin that drop off our bodies as we sleep. It is there poo that causes the problem.....as our bodys reject the inhalation of these and tries to keep them out by closing down our respiratory system.....ie bronchial tubes !
Rotate your pillows.....keeping a freshly laundered pair ready to swap as often as necessary.
Kill the bugs/mites by freezing them down , in your freezer (put them in a plastic bag).
get rid of the Dust mite faeces (poo) , by washing and drying well ! Good luck....let me know how you get on "hypnotist1uk@yahoo.com"

You need to see a pulmonologist- a lung specialist.
What is in your environment that is triggering your reactions?
