HIV is not transmitted with every sexual act even though it is possible each time.
There are a great many ways to reduce your risk. Abstinence is pretty darn effective, but not much fun. There are sexual practices that are very safe, and others that can be made less risky by using barrier methods of protection and some common sense. Masturbation is incredibly safe and you don't have to "use" anything at all.
Committed, mutually faithful relationships decrease your risk, as does reducing the total number of sexual partners. You can also use practices like mutual masturbation, ordinary oral kissing and "dry humping" that have little risk. Gentler penetrative sex is less risky than rough sex, and avoiding intercourse when blood or breaks in the skin or mucosa is present is also a good idea. And if you touch places that are potentially infectious, like the anus or genitals, wash your hands well before using the bathroom or touching anything else and consider using gloves when doing this.
Using condoms and latex dams every single time you have any kind of sex is the number one way to avoid transmitting and catching all STD's. Men must apply a condom as soon as erect, since the preejaculate can contain virus (and sperm, if you have concerns about pregnancy.) Also, having another STD also increases HIV risk, so refrain until those are cleared up.
Finally, if you have sex with someone who has HIV or you are unsure about, or if a barrier like a condom fails, contact your doctor immediately, There are medication protocols that may prevent infection if given immediately, and in any case, you need to know about follow-up testing.
There are a great many couples where one person has HIV and the other one does not and who stay that way for many, many years. Magic Johnson and his wife are just one example.

the only thing you can do is use a condom.. and thats not 100% affective.. the "cells" or whatever that cause hiv can still get through the condom sometimes. not to mention... if there are any even microscopic nicks or scrapes anywhere on you and that persons bodily fluids enter.. you are at risk. just because you have unprotected or protected sex w/ someone with hiv it doesn't mean you will get it.. but its a risky risky thing... you could talk to a doctor or someone at planned parenthood.. and they might have more detailed information than what i can give you

Thats the interesting question, thats been brought up. If most people would not sleep with someone they knew had hiv,EVEN with a condom. Why do people sleep with others when they dont know that other person's hiv status
Funny how humans perceive risk

Saliva, tears, sweat and urine could have the virus in them, yet in such small concentrations that no man or woman has ever been contaminated via them. although, if any body fluid is visibly contaminated with blood, the opportunity of transmission exists. nevertheless keeping that in to ideas would opt for to inform you in accordance to CDC kissing is low / no possibility journey, contained in the historic previous of HIV merely one documented case's recorded of shopping for HIV via Kissing how ever they're nevertheless skeptical about it, this isn't any longer a concrete peice of guidance because in addition they imagine that, there continues to be a danger that the girl become contaminated in approaches except kissing Saliva has certain proteins that make it an quite undesirable provider of HIV. as a effect, kissing, sucking, and licking the lips, mouth, and tongue are truly possibility-free. Use a condom, correctly. Abstinence is the only way to prevent STD's, but next to that, proper use of a condom is most effective. If i were you, I would not even put myself in that position.
