I had asthma when I was a kid, and outgrew it by my late teens. I did have a predisposition to develop upper respiratory infections, until my doctor prescribed Nasacort. It lines the sinus cavity to prevent infections, which usually result from a build-up of phlegm in the cavity when you are laying horizontal (sleeping). It has worked for me very well for about 5 years now, you should ask your doc about it.

Upper respiratory infections, whatever the cause, can be adult onset asthma.
A friend of mine had this condition, and was recommended by her doctor to take up an exercises program to gain a bigger lung capacity.
