In a word, no.

It would take many LITRES of saliva being injected into your blood stream before you had a viable virus load.

By that time you would be dead from the fluid excess!

*Update*
Ok, mythbusting time:-

Blood in saliva is then a totally different story than saliva. We are now talking saliva AND blood. Even so, in practice hiv+ fluid - yes even blood if "dripped onto a cut" is unlikely to transmit HIV - as a cut "bleeds out" - it doesn't "suck in". It would still be unwise and regarded as unsafe - but it is improbable that trasnmission would occur.

This is why vaginal / anal sex is risky because the friction of the penis can PUSH the virus through cuts / delicate linings. If very gentle lovemaking and plenty of lube, there is less risk than if very dry / rough sex. Clearly a condom and water based lube makes a HUGE difference to the safety of both people.

You cannot catch or transmit AIDS. This might seem like nitpicking but there is a MASSIVE difference between HIV (may be perfectly healthy for 10-15 years or more) and AIDS - by defination, a point in which HIV has finally made you unwell by letting opportunistic infections take over your body.

HIV transmission - now wait YEARS - then possibly some folks will develop an AIDS diagnosis.

The imbeciles saying that swiming pools etc are a risk are either grotesquely ill informed OR are deliberately trying to scare people. I challenge them to edit their post and put a link to a single items of PROPER study to support their wholly false claim.

I've always been told no. But for some reason I thought I heard of a case a few years ago where they confirmed that aids was transfered by saliva. but I could be wrong.

The concentration of the aids virus in saliva is low, but if one of the participants has broken skin in their mouth, there can be a possibility of transmission.

Continuous French kissing could damage the skin of the mouth, gums or lips, and for this reason the CDC advises against kissing an infected person in this way, since the disease can be carried in saliva.

After reading many of the answers above, it's amazing how many people are dangerously unaware of this fact!

It's theoretically possible, but very unlikely.

HIV isn't transmitted as easily as most people think.

The research shows, that when it comes to say, for example, insertive-vaginal sex (the man to the woman) if the woman were HIV positive and the sex was unprotected, statistically, transmission would only occur in 1 out of every 2000 instances.

Not the chance you'd want to take, but so many people have the notion that if one person in the sexual encounter is HIV positive then it will be automatically transmitted to the other everytime. It's not true.

First of all, Nursey needs to get off of the computer and go BACK to nursing school. Research has NOT shown that HIV is transmitted in saliva. You people need to do your research before answering these questions. You can research this topic in thousands of places on the web.

Any bodily fluids can transfer AIDS!
But you probably would have to drink gallons of saliva to catch it!

No saliva cannot transfer aids. Only blood.

Sure HIV gets transferred via saliva. Any body fluid will do so. HIV eventually will manifest as AIDS.

They say you need a gallon but if a person has bleeding gums then your in trouble. But a swimming pool is a risk too but they don't tell you that.

no, aids is only transferred through bodily fluids, like Blood etc.
IT needs to enter into your blood system to affect you, so unless you have had teeth removed that day, have cuts in your mouth etc, your fine.
