I'm looking for ideas for inexpensive centerpieces for a baksetball awards banquet. Money is tight so fresh flowers are out of the question, and I will be setting about 25 tables.

Check online at Oriental Trading - http://www.orientaltrading.com/
They have an assortment of small basketball items that you could fashion into cute center pieces for little. If you don't have time to wait for them to send things to you, check out local cardware stores for similar type items. You could scatter small basketballs on the table and small pieces of curled ribbons in your school colors, or if you find the tiny mini kind on a stick or ones you can attach to a skewer you could make your own basketball bouquet for the centerpiece. Add ribbons in your school colors. Also, check Dollar Bill type stores for mini basketballs, etc. What about a couple of helium balloons in school colors? If you are doing enough you can buy a small helium tank and fill the balloons yourself. Another cute idea is buying inexpensive plastic tableclothes in school colors and with empty toiliet paper rolls make poms for the table center. I've also found M & M type candies in bulk and scattered those across the table top for a fun and yummy look.

Have fun and cheer your team on!

Find copy or design miniature basketball courts with colorful backgrounds on the computer. Maybe just draw the lines like on an actual court (not players). Print out each on 11X17 sheets of paper. Make sure background of paper contrasts with actual banquet tables or tablecloth on each table. Laminate paper. Use as a centerpiece for each table, or placemats for each setting. Goto Big Lots, or Family Dollar and buy small plastic basketballs. Glue one on the center or another location for each centerpiece. Maybe if they have toy miniature people in gym outfits, tiny basketball hoops or something like that could be added to random table courts for uniqueness. It would give 3 dimensional quality, and create conversation if someone notices the difference in the table decorations.

There are many ideas on the net. Just enter basketball or sports theme centerpieces.
Or, get creative... how about a large card holder with photographs of the team throughout their season? Perhaps one collage (double sided) that you've had printed up... (landscape so people could see over it).
Or... cut a basketball in half (old trashed one) invert it... and stick
those tinsel picks in school colors.

Nice place for a wedding. Sounds very pretty. Here is what I did for a shower I threw. I wanted to make centerpieces plus favors, but I like to make useful favors. SO, I came up with the idea of flower pens. But some silk flowers (or whatever your budget will allow) and cut the stems about two inches from the bulb. Get some Bic pens and toss the caps. Use green floral tape (from Wal Mart) and attach the flower to the pen, winding the tape all the way down the pen like a stem. Bunch up the flower pens and put them in vases with marbles. After the party, everyone pick a "favor", and you don't waster your centerpieces!!!

Can you get practice balls and old nets from the school and use those? Perhaps intertwined with a little ivy or placed on some scrap hardwood flooring (donated by a local flooring store).
What's the team mascot - maybe that could be used in some way? Wayyyyy back when I was in highschool, I played lacrosse and the team mom got those brown paper lunch bags and used markers of our team colors and drew paw prints (we were the tigers) and made like 5 or 6 per table for the "bouquet". At the end of the lunchean we were able to take a bag with us and it was filled with candies and fruit and honestly, we were thrilled with it and it was easy, cheap and quick cleanup...

They should be artistic and each one represent a different program. For example, for music, start with a tissue box with a weight in it and cover with paper and then use skewers and glue old 45 records (you can get them at the thrift store or goodwill) and have them stick out all over with music symbols hanging off of them. For media/film, use movie reels, etc. Put an interesting fact on each one as well about the program it represents.
