When you test your blood sugar, do you use the same finger all the time or do you change.

I was told by the pharmacist it didn't make a difference in which finger you tested but someone I worked with says it keeps a balance with your readings using the same finger.

TEsting four times a day (or more) on the same finger would definitely cause discomfort, not to mention eventual callusing. I rotate among the fingers on mty left hand (I'm right-handed, and it's a little awkward to manipulate the lancet in my left hand), to minimize this problem. And, two different fingers are used i canses of low blood glucose readigns (hypoglycemia) to confirm the level. Hope this helps!

The reading will be the same regardless of which finger you take it at. Move around or it'll get sore if you keep using the same spot. I recommend the side of the finger. That way, when you use that fingertip, it's less likely to bother you.

and who do you believe? The pharmacist or your friend.

By the way, you needn't always test on your fingertips. You can do the sides of the fingers, hand, even forearm, assuming you have a newer machine.

You can change your fingers on which you *****. In fact, it is recommended because if you use the same finger, you can become leaky.
Some of the newer ones you can test on your arm, but the finger ***** is more accurate.

Your co-worker is ill-informed. Blood is blood, whether it's in your thumb or your butt. If you keep testing the same finger, you're gonna be sore and maybe even infected. Rotate.

Being diabetic for 16 years I can tell you, its best to rotate each time. The results will be the same, but after time your fingertips get callused and sore. Rotating helps.
