It means you could be making something completely off the wall that nobody's ever seen and you've never seen a recipe for it. Or if you saw 4 different recipes for the same thing and sort of combined them together with some of this, some of that, leaving other stuff out. Or if you can't even find a recipe for whatever you want, you just make it up and pray for the best!

make something up yourself. it may not be an original completely but it is about making something your own or making something up that you have never heard of before. it boils down to creativity
