If they told you before you had sex, I would stay, ONLY if you cared about the person. There are ways to help keep you from getting herpes. Either way, most people have Type 1 (coldsores) herpes. Some don't even know they have it! I had a unconclusive test. I told my bf (we are very committed and will be getting married soon) and he was like "We will try to be careful, but I am not going to not touch you because of this."
Needless to say I ended up not having Herpes anyways. I think it really depends on how committed you are.

I got clinically diagnosed with the herpes simplex virus (type 2) about six years ago, when I was still attending college and had a stupid one-night stand. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone that has sores around her you-know-what? But since a friend shared this video everything changed https://tr.im/HERPESTreatment2015qWHy
Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the hsv from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to begin dating once more. I even met the man of my dreams. This method provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience real love. Now I want to enable you too by sharing this with the whole World.

To all of you people who say you would stay, but you wouldn't have sex. What is the point in staying in the relationship? Boyfriends and girlfriends are supposed to express affection towards each other, and that usually includes sexual contact. I have herpes and have dated people with and without it. I would never stay with someone who won't touch me because he doesn't think I'm worth the risk. Screw that. I'd rather be alone than be ostracized.
It's_Whatever... there are lots of dating sites for people with STD's... mpwh.net, purpledoorpersonals.com, positivesingles.com.

wow im amazed at some of these answers. U know what that would of been me 6 months ago saying no i wouldnt do anything with them. I was diagnosed with herpes type 2 this past weekend. If the person takes valtrex and dont have outbreaks its very hard to catch that way and they wear a condom there is a small chance. Now if someone were to ask me this question now i would say yes i would knowing the consequences.

All of your people who have posted have obviously not educated yourself enough to understand what herpes is. 1 in 4 women will contract herpes in their lifetime and by the time women reach 40, 80% of women will have herpes. It's not life threatening, it's not going to kill you. You can have so much worse like HIV/AIDS, Cervical Cancer... you just have to be more cautious. You read up on things on the internet like it'll ruin your life?
Excuse me, who said it needs to ruin your life? You can still have sex, you can still give a natural birth. Herpes only breaks out when your immune system is bad, to those who have never witnessed someone go through child birth, women's immunes systems are INCREDIBLE during 9 months. 1 in 80,000 babies born from a mother with Genital Herpes will contract the virus... do the math, it's not a lot...
So leave it up to you do what you want to but chances are by the time you men are 35-40, your partner/spouse/wife will already have herpes....

Using my interpretation of the word "girlfriend" I would stay. But, you must understand, at 59 years of age I am a bit older than many on this board. I don't use the word "girlfriend" to denote a passing acquaintance.
For the purpose of your poll I may not be a valid source for data. Only you can decide. That is why I added the extra detail to my answer.

Run...I would run faster than Superman.
God only knows what else she/he has.
In this day and age, as my dear Mom (a Doctor) tells me, before you start to get involved with someone you may want to be involved with (love)...check them out first.
The consequences of STD's may seriously affect not only you, but children that you may have in the future.

If I was told before we had sex, I would run. If I was told after we had sex, I would still run and hope like hell I didn't contract it. If I did, I would make sure that every person he was with from then on knew that he had Herpes.
