Were you resting for a while before you took your pulse? Or were you active?
A slow heartbeat is termed bradycardia. It is normal, but if it's giving you discomfort or other problems, there are medicines that can speed up your heart rate and cardiac output. The normal heart rate is around 60 to 100 beats per minute. These medicines can increase your heart rate to around these rates, but it may take a little while for your body to get used to them. If you aren't having any problems with your heart, I would just be aware of it, but would not take any further actions. Your body has certain compensatory mechanisms to increase your HR when necessary, if these aren't working right, I would see a Dr.

Best thing to do is ask Mom to take you for a doctor checkup. Any time your heart starts doing something unusual, you need to check it out. Plenty of kids your age have some kind of heart problem that isn't diagnosed until that person suddenly collapses. Often that problem could have been dealt with easily if the kid had only told somebody and seen a doctor. Do it.

You are in yer teens and could be suffering from anxiety. The behavior you described fits the bill. How many healthy people constantly check their pulses to detect their heart rate etc. This alone is a sufficient diagnosis of anxiety neurosis. In teens your subconscious mind is the lone culprit.Anxiety relating to studies, friends, exams, game, parents etc can manifest in various forms and one of them could be anxiety without your being aware of it.However slow rate of heart is called as 'sinus bradycardia'.To rule out any systemic cause consult a doc who will most probably subject you for a ECG or Electro Cardio Gram. Its a simple non invasive procedure where electrical impulses originating from the heart are recorded and any abnormality is detected. But I warn you people like you will show abnormal heart rate, the moment a doc prepares you for a ECG because again of your anxiety.Hence dont bother much about it but consult a physician or cardiologist.
