The most commonly prescribed birth controls pills contain a synthetic mixture of estrogen and another hormone called progesterone. In addition, there is a form of birth control called the “mini-pill” which only contains progesterone. These hormones are necessary for the contraceptive action of the birth control pill, but carry some risks.

Progesterone is a hormone that can affect blood pressure. The mechanism by which this occurs is complicated, but involves both hormone cascades and direct effect on small blood vessels. Because of these effects, it is possible that taking birth control pills can cause your blood pressure to rise. This increase in blood pressure can range from very mild to potentially serious, and may sometimes warrant discontinuing the birth control.

While the absolute risk of developing high blood pressure while taking birth control pills has not been established, there are several other factors that may indicate a woman is more likely to experience this complication. These factors include

A family history of high blood pressure, especially in female relatives
A personal history of high blood pressure during prior pregnancy
Any personal history of heart problems
Any personal history of blood vessel problems .

Yes, it is safe to do so. I have done so for years and have had no problems. It doesn't raise your blood pressure, it doesn't have any effect on it what so ever.

Not like cold medicines can, they can raise blood pressure if you are not careful with them..

But it is alright to take oral contraceptives while taking blood pressure medication. Your doctor will prescribe what is right for you so that you will not have any problems.

I have taken both for years with out any problems. My blood pressure is totally under control. I was just at the doctor on this last Thursday and it was normal.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

Yes and no. Oral contraceptives can influence your blood pressure. My question is do you have a high blood pressure? Many people are too early diagnosed with hgh blood pressure ad can treat this by changing diet, stress and relaxation techniques. There are many causes; infections, stress, not relaxed enough, not eating well, to much sodium, too much coffee and sodas, not enough water intake, hormonal imbalance, illnesses….you mention it. When you take your blood pressure; Sit still, relax for 5 minutes and do not talk. Visualize that your blood pressure is low. Nervousness before your blood pressure is taken, will influence your blood pressure negatively, which is called white coat syndrome. Be aware of medications, many medications have a side effect of raising your blood pressure. Check with your doctor.

I did a test with a 49 old gentleman, he had an infection in his lip, was stressed out because his wife is very sick, has bills to pay…etc. He had the same question so I took his blood pressure 155/98 too high. I asked him to relax and lay down for 5 minutes and no talk. I repeated the blood pressure again it was 144/89. I did EFT on him, Emotional Freedom Technique. Which takes me a minute? Simple easy acupressure points with affirmations. His blood pressure, still having his infection, came down in 2 ½ minutes to 136/73. He was so relieved and grateful. I have repeated this test with many high blood pressure patients and the result is still the same. See source for more recipes on high blood pressure and enjoy your life, learn EFT, to get a better life and you can save on trips to doctors, psychiatrist, counselors etc.

The answer is no!
It's too big a risk; even w/the new ones.
I don't know if "Felix" is a doctor or not; very informative answer.
You really should talk it over w/your doctor; providing you had one prescribe them. . .
Or, are you just investigating ???
Do talk w/a doctor; an open-minded one. And, one def. cannot smoke & take birth control pills & avoid the high blood pressure risk.

Yes! I take both and my cardiologist says it's fine. Talk to a doctor first though.
