I was put on insulin and it had a major side effect of putting extra weight on me. I was about 230#'s and losing weight (5" 11") just fine and then the insulin put 85 pounds on me and I can't seem to get it OFF....I also worked my way off the insulin 18 months ago and I still can't seem to lose weight.

I had the same problem. My girlfriend in L.A., Ca. had breast cancer and went on a Macrobiotic diet. She didn't want to do it alone, so I went on it with her, I figured that it couldn't hurt with the diabetes since I'd been having weight gain for several years.. I didn't exercise or anything, but I lost 56 pounds in less than 5 months. It just came off. It's pretty dramatic, but I remained on the diet and have lost a total of 68 pounds after a year of being on it religiously. I've started exercising and I'm expecting to continue with my weight loss.

You should check it out, it might really help you. I've pretty much reduced my insulin intake to nothing. I've included a website that you can check out and in the "source" area I've left a few books that you can read in regards to the subject. I wish you the best of luck!

This is very common in Type 2 diabetics, because they are insulin resistant. The best way is tried, tested, and true. A healthy meal plan (restrict refined carbs and portions), lots of exercise (1hr/5x week), and the dedication to stick with it for life.

Also note that some diabetes oral medications can cause weight gain. Ask your doctor to double check your medication if you are on any. Your doctor can also check your thyroid hormone levels. If too low, this can cause you to gain/retain weight.

See a dietitian and Diabetes Nurse Educator to help you get started on a meal and exercise plan.

Best of luck!
