This is because I heard that our skin pores are open at night time and that some of the water may actually enter into our system. Since our bodies contain a lot of water, this should not be a problem. However, our lungs are different matter, and hence the concern. Is there any concrete evidence/study done on this? Can someone comment on this. Thanks.

Showering and bathing can be beneficial to some people with breathing problems because the steam can help open the airways.

It does not make a difference what time of day or night it is.

No. It is actually a good habit to shower at night. The skin is the largest organ of the body. It works for us it protects us. Pores do not 'open at night' The pores are working all the time.Water enters our body all the time. That's good. Sometimes water gets into our lung and if we are normally healthy thats OK the body(lungs) deal with it.

I had heard about that rumors. I heard it when i was small.
I do believe it but if you want to bath, make sure you go feet first rather than the head.
Can you imagine, 70% of water loss from the body is from your hair.
If you pour cold water on it, it might get some problems.

i've never heard anything like this, but it might explain my cough if it were true!

the lungs actually like warm moist air, seeing as typically that is their natural state (they're warm, in our body at 98.6 degrees, and moist because when we inhale the air goes through our mouth and throat and picks up moisture on the way.)

oftentimes a hot shower will clear out your lungs if you have a cough, are getting over a cold, etc.

i'm not aware of any evidence to the contrary.

Sorry to say that I haven't heard of such a thing. So I could say that some one is pulling your leg. If such a thing was true then why bathe at all, since our body's do require a large amount of water?

WTF does bathing/showering have to do with our lungs? If it were a problem, it would be an immediate problem as our lungs don't take any crap. It would not be a problem that got worse over time.
