Hi everyone......
Well the other day the Red Cross was at my school having a blood drive. At first I had no intentions on donating blood, then something came over me to just go ahead and do it. So I filled out all of the paperwork, they pricked my finger, took my temp. and then went to take my blood pressure. When the nurse was done taking it, she just looked at me and then called another nurse that was across the room to come check it. I guess she thought she must have read it wrong or something. So after taking it again she told the first nurse what she got and it was a tad bit below what the first nurse got. They both just looked at me and said "Oh you can't donate blood, your blood pressure is through the roof. You need to go to the doctors, asap" It was like 140/111!!!!
Now for the past 4 months or so whenever I go to a store that has a blood pressure machine, I take it. It's been prehypertension. Is this normal? I'm only 28 yrs. old, I weight 130 lbs.. I'm 5'5.

That is high, especially the bottom number, which is the one that matters most. You need to get it under control or it can cause a heart attack. Salt (aka sodium) will raise your blood pressure too so a low salt diet and EXERCISE helps...so does losing weight if you are heavy.

BP meds keep it in the normal range which keeps your heart healthy. Talk to your doctor but don't let the years go by...I've known lots of people drop dead long before 40.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

No. It isn't normal. You need to see a doctor. Even though you may be an average weight and height, it's possible that you have high cholesteral and high blood pressure. It happens. Go see a doctor and see what they say. It more then likely is an easy fix, but you need to be checked out. High blood pressure can cause problems like stroke and heart attack. It can effect even simple functions of the body, and can cause early breakdown of your veins and arteries. Go get checked out and make sure everything is fine.

Anyone at any age can develop hypertension. You really ought to go to a doctor. Untreated hypertension is more damaging to your body than most medications to treat it. Alot of people are on medications with no problems whatsoever. Your heart can enlarge, you can have a stroke, heart attack, vascular and kidney damage from leaving it untreated. So, don't deny the problem anymore, get it under treatment. sometimes doctors opt to treat with very strict diet, and then add a diuretic to start. They are learning that it's even better to keep blood pressures more strictly under 120/80. So, what are you waiting for.

It is unusual for someone your age to have such high blood pressure, and it places you at a high risk for all sorts of problems. It would be a good idea to have a checkup with your doctor, and figure out how you can lower your blood pressure. You may need medicine to lower your BP.

hypertension is most often refered to as the silent disease, based on its insidious effects. conversely, a high reading obtained for three consecutives reads is a determining factor for hypertension. based on your scenario presented, activities such as moderate exertion, smoking, underlying illness, dietary regimes and or familial traitrs could predispose one to high blood pressure. what you need to do is to pay a visit to your GP/NP and discuss your health as it relates to hypertension.
