I was absolutely shocked when I read the documented information on this website. http://www.biblelife.org/vegetarian-deficiencies.htm

This website is proof that a vegetarian/vegan diet is not healthy. I strongly encourage the readers of Yahoo! Answers to eat a well balanced diet that consists of meat and dairy.

With they're idea of a typical vegetarian diet, I would say yeah, I am deficient. Do you really think two bagels, and a few cups of fruit and vegetables is all a vegetarian eats? That chart looks like whoever wrote it thinks vegetarians are just people who follow a typical unhealthy American diet, and just cut out the meat. That whole chart might be about one meal for me, and seeing as a whole-grain bagel has about 10 grams of protein, I'm getting a very large part of my daily protein each day JUST FROM BAGELS. When I gave up eggs and dairy, I was pretty skinny. I lost weight, and then gained more than I lost, in the form of muscle. And another thing: I'M CHRISTIAN. Anyone who calls they're website biblelife and says a vegetarian diet is unhealthy needs to read the bible again. In the beginning God created the world vegan. Everyone, including animals were vegan. In Isaiah 66:3, it says "He who kills an ox is as if he killed a man," and it also says in Isaiah 7:15 "He (Jesus) shall eat butter and honey, so that he may know to refuse evil, and choose the good."

Foxhunter you're just wrong, there's really not much more to say on the matter. Contrary to what you say, a vegetarian diet is far more healthy than an diet full of animal products. I've been vegan for 17 years and am in excellent health, meanwhile my friends and relatives who eat animal products (think: butter, eggs, greasy burgers, fatty pork chops, steaks, sausages, bacon, cheese ...) are mostly overweight and have many various health problems from high blood pressure to cancer (note the overwhelming evidence that, for example, prostate cancer is for the most part a lifestyle disease caused by bad diet and fitness). If you want to damage your health by consuming these unhealthy products, go right ahead, but please don't promote lies in order to scare other people into making the same bad choices you are.

Have you seen this?

"Vegan Males Become Wussies

The vegan diet wipes out the hormonal system in males. Their testosterone level plunges. The sperm count plunges, and they can't get it up, erectile dysfunction (ED). They become impotent sissies. This is the reason vegan males become submissive to females and become homosexual. They can be seen carrying peace signs in demonstrations and are ready to surrender. The fact that the vegan diet makes humans less fertile proves humans did not evolve as vegetarians. This can be quickly shown by a simple visit to Dr. Andrew Weil's message board for male health problems."

I would laugh if they didn't seem so serious about it. OMG.

"Bible Life Ministries'
Nutritional Program Has Performed Healing Miracles
The proper diet for healing and health preservation is argued fiercely because this is a spiritual battle"

Ah, now we get to the root of this twaddle.

Dr Atkins' diet was full of meat - and look what happened to him - I don't think cavemen lived that long either - rather a re-occurring pattern, don't you think.
As a vegetarian who can swim 20 lengths of a 25 metre pool in under 10 minutes, run a mile in approx 7 minutes, and easily walk 15 miles in an afternoon, I don't feel that my diet restricts my ablilities in any way.
There is such a thing as statistics, and also lies damned lies - they are often one and the same..,

Oh Foxie babe. You have a lot to learn about t'internet haven't you. You can find anything you want to believe on the internet. If I looked hard enough I'm sure I could find an article that said wearing a pink tux and wearing disco skates would be good for me!!! stick to what you have heard of. Ive never heard of biblelife.org if it is the same preachy televangelists that sell religion and a place in heaven then it's not worth the pixels it's written on. For more acurate reading look at the Vegan society's website. They are an official organisation not shyster people misquoting my bible!! The founder of veganism lived to be 96. If you keep eating steak, offal, chopped and shaped chicken nuggets and pork ribs you will be lucky to see 60. Omnivores smell funny and have bad breath. They also experience a decline in erm well man's favourite bodily function.

Go vegan, I dare you!!!! Your Mrs will be e mailing me to thank me everyday. You and your little fox_hunter guy will be faster and stronger and stay the distance!!!

I visited that web site. It also says to stop eating sugar before you stop smoking because sugar is worse for you than smoking. It also says not to eat soy, wheat, legumes, cows milk. So I guess it would be hard to be a healthy vegetarian following these rules - no tofu, no seitan, no beans.

I strongly encourage the asker to get nutritional advice from maybe someone who knows something about nutrition.

If you had a bad vegetarian experience that's too bad, but I prefer not to ingest all the chemicals and hormones and antibiotics that are pumped into meat animals these days to enable them to survive in the inhuman conditions in which they are being raised.

It would be deficient if that's what people really ate.

Except of course it isn't-most of us eat healthy balanced plant based diets.

Small tip:Don't trust a website call biblelife.org!

I am 25,became vegetarian at 7 and vegan at 16 and I am totally healthy. Some deficient diet eh?

Foxie get a life and leave vegetarians and vegans to their lives!

No, none deficient, but I have met a lot that were really FAT though.

I took a look at the website link mentioned. Wow, some very ignorant stuff. Not to mention that it is written by some weirdo cult fanatics. They believe in some really silly things other than their beliefs of vegetarian diets.

It says a lot that you have to make reference to site that quotes the bible in order to back up your theories on meat eating. Take a look at the proper scientific evidence out there and then try telling people that veggie diets are unhealthy. The only people who will listen to you are those that are either ignorant or they don't know how to follow a veggie diet properly.

I did not know that. Oh no! I'm a vegetarian...I've only been one for my whole life. And my whole family (of 8) are vegetarians. If we are so unhealthy, why are any of my family in any way ill? And they haven't suffered any major illnesses at all?
Your theory about how unhealthy vegetarians are...is baffling.
