I'm trying to figure out what that means. BP declined normally, not much more I can understand about the results.

Does this mean that there is underlying heart disease?

My doctor is a useless twit but at least she's good at passing the buck to someone qualified.

A positive stress test means that there is a part of your heart that isn't getting blood flow when you exercise. There is probably a blockage in one or more of your coronary arteries. The next step is a cardiac catheterization (heart cath/coronary angiogram) to get details.

A positive stress test means that there is an area of cardiac muscle that has restricted or blocked blood flow. Before the stress test, the patient is administered a short lived radionucleotide. Images are obtained after raising the heart rate to an excercise level. Normally this is done by making the patient exercise, but for those that are unable to there are drugs that can mimic this effect.

A positive result means that there was a lack of the radionucleotide being perfused into the cardiac muscle, thus meaning less blood flow.

In most cases, a PTCA (percutaneous transluminal cardiovascular angioplasty) also known as ballooning or a stent will be treatment enough. However, if the patient has multiple vessel disease, A CABG (cardiac artery bypass graft) surgery is the normal treatment.

I have coronary artery disease with a stent. Had lot's of those stress test but with drugs and not actual physical stress due to RSD. When mine came back positive they took some kind of radioactive pictures and saw that my right side of the heart was not normal. Then they send you to the cath lab where they actually go inside from access through your leg to see exactly what's wrong. If they find blockages they fix them either by stent or open heart surgery depending on circumstances. I had four blockages but surgery was not an option so I got the stent!
Best to talk with your doctor and have him put all the facts on the table. Personally, I can't deal with those doctors that decide what I should and shouldn't know! It's not their place to make that decision! Demand the facts or find another MD! You also have the option of getting your medical records and review them.

If your test was administered by a physician or a health-care provider, it is their responsibility to explain to you what this means. If it wasn't and you are worried, then maybe you should see a doctor.
