I know I am in the wrong section here but I asked this question a while ago in the beauty section and was amazed at how few people know what being vegan means!
My friend is vegan and a vet which means she has to scrub up several times a day and her hands are really suffering as a result. Can you please recommend a good, deeply moisturising hand cream? Many thanks

Yes I certainly can!

HEMP HAND PROTECTOR from The Body Shop is the best (and I have tried a number of hand creams). It is also not tested on animals.
It says on the tube: Heavy duty moisturisation, protection and repair. But it doesn't leave your hands "greasy".

I can also recommend the hemp lip protector. This is also the only lip balm my boyfriend will use - and that means something ;-)

Neutrogena is good but only if applied at night, before going to bed. It stays in the top layers of the skin "forever" and if your hands get in contact with water they become "slimy". Also, it doesn't say on the tube that it is not tested on animals - I don't think it is vegan.

I suspect L'Occitane hand cream must be good, too (it IS NOT tested on animals), but I haven't tried it yet.

I definitely agree with "M" that Hemp Hand Protector from The Body Shop is one of the finest products I have used very successfully on my hands. Vera.gr, olive oil is fine in the kitchen, but maybe not suitable for every use and its fatty, but not a moisturiser. Greek olive oil also has a peculiar smell, which is fine again, but I wouldn't put it on my skin (I'm Greek too by the way) :)

Honesty products are vegan, that means no lanolin or other animal ingrediants and not tested on animals either. (I'm allergic to perfumes!)

Vets don't need to scrub up to the same standard as human surgeons, so it might be an idea for your friend to check what she's using and not scrub her skin as harshly.

savlon is very good at soothing and can be applied often, however twice daily you will need a good fine grained gel exfoliant use before putting any good hand cream, (they are generally all the same, believe me).
I personally like clarins. and do exfoliate before.(evian affinity is a good one) the exfoliating is a must.

Kiss my Face products are vegan. You can find them in health-food stores. If you are not near one, try these sites.

http://veganstore.com or http://veganessentials.com

I buy a lot of products form them.

Virgin coconut oil is amazing on dry hands, and contains no chemicals to distress the skin. It can be used on the face and rest of the body as well. It can be purchased at health food stores
