I had an std test when I was pregnant... I was just wondering if herpes would have been included in the battery.

to test for herpes..they would swab lesions or an area that u may have complained about....otherwise they check your blood with a finger stick. its pretty quick to get tested...alot of people have herpes and dont know it.

Usually herpes is tested for when you think you have an out break, or it can be tested for with a blood test. They don't typically test for herpes during pregnancy and they tests for herpes are not typically included in the routine std exams unless there is a break out. Pap smears are not usually used to detect genital herpes, they are used to detect HPV/genital warts. Herpes out breaks can vary from person to person and they don't always look like the pics on the internet. Some out breaks can be very mild. If you didn't have a break out at the time you delivered then your daughter should be fine. There is only a small chance of passing it when you don't have any sings of an out break and it's even less likely to be passed if you were prescribed antiviral medication before you were due to deliver. If you have another out break then you should have the out break tested for herpes, if you don't have another out break then you can have a blood test done. If your husband is the only one you are having sex with then it most likely came from him, so he should be tested too.

no herpes is not a routine test. the doctor will test you if your having any symptoms of herpes but it is NOT a routine test during pregnancy. If you are worried about herpes then you MUST talk to you doctor...because if you have herpes and don't say anything about it and you have an outbreak during the time of delivery, it can be passed onto your baby and may be very fatal causing blindness and even death.

no unless you had a sore or anything of that sort. u cannot just get tested for herpes. u have to have something to test. rash, sore or something. thats why so many people have this and dont know. u do though within 2 week sof contracting herpes get a breakout and`a bad fever type sickness. u wouldnt have missed these feelings if u think u have herpes.

You wont be tested for it unless you give your doctor reason to believe you could be infected. I asked for this test when I was pregnant.....the Midwife asked if I had had any symtoms and when I told her no....she said there was no reason to test me then ( no finger stick or anything ) You would really have to make a stink to get the test I think ( especially if it is just precautionary )

probably yea...because in the case of a vaginal birth, genital herpes is transmittable to the baby.
