19 million people are infected by STDs every year in America. Nearly half of these infections are among young people ages 15-24. What do you think is the cause of this sudden increase?? And what would you steps do you think is necessary to prevent this sudden surge of STDs in America??

because people love having sex....and are to stupid to use protection when they do it and think that it is the other persons job and in the end no one uses protection....and because more an more people are doing incredibly gross acts like anal and toys and threesomes and thus adding more things to the mix and spreading more diseases....if people learned to be with only one persons and not give it to everyone who walks by, we wouldn't have this problem

They are getting infected because there is no moral code in this country. Everywhere young people look, they are bombarded with sexual images and they are under the impression that everyone is doing it so I should too. They are also under the impression that condoms are perfect protection and I can tell you from my life pre-birth control pill that they often fail. I have a daughter who was strained through one. LOL When I was young, everyone including adults watched I Love Lucy and all the other Mayberry TV shows. Lucy and Desi slept in separate beds. I'm 60 years old and I don't have to tell you how much it's changed in my lifetime. There was plenty of illicit sex going on but most ended up married to their partner. The only disease we had to worry about was cured with a penicillin shot. No one was going to die from one. This is way scary and I wonder how anyone even thinks about having multiple partners and my generation is responsible. The pill started us off thinking we wouldn't get preggers and there weren't any diseases that scared us so why not. I guess my generation owes this generation an apology for what we set you up for.

More people are avoiding simple sexual intercourse and using oral sex, anal sex. This lets them think they are not truly sexually active and avoid pregnancy. Some of these practices pass on disease.
A recent study by the CDC also shows that many youths that take the abstinence oath postpone sex for a year or so but when they do start their sex lives use protection at a lower rate than people who have never taken the abstinence oath. Ignorance or stupidity, its hard to say.

Lack of morals. When people turn against marriage and commitment for endless "relationships" and casual flings, they are going to get a disease. Condoms are not the answer, that's like locking the liquer closet on an alcoholic, you have to get away from the cause and do the right thing. Get married young, stay together, and you won't catch any stds.

The kids now a days are having sex, much younger than the older generations. They also dress more older ans there is alot of pressure on the kids too. They seem like they have to have sex to fit in or be considered older is they have sex with anyone, and plus they don't know much about sex because they ARE having it too young.........

Young girls and boys are getting sexually active younger for one,and they are not eduacated on condoms or STD's.Older guys are giving STD's and AIDS to all these little girls and they go out and have sex with a younger boy and that boy gets it and the cycle keeps repeating.

People are going to have sex and get STDs. Condoms are not practical. A couple should get an STD check up before having sex. My sexually active coworker told me horror stories about how impractical condoms are.
