The answer is 'it depends.' Most folks who think of 'active TB' are thinking of a specific bacteria--mycobacterium tuberculosis. This organism is best know for the chronic lung disease and wasting it causes. This syndrome was known as 'Consumption' back in the old days...This bacteria can also cause other diseases such as meningitis and bone infection. It is not curable without anti-TB antibiotics. It is a big public health concern as strains of this tb exist that are resistant to many of the antibiotics we use to treat 'active tb.'
There are other forms of 'tb' known as atypical mycobacterium that affect mostly people with immune systems that don't work. These people have HIV, take anti-inflammatory steroids, or are on chemotherapy drugs. Sometimes these infections can be 'cured' as the person regains their immune capabilities.
Whatever the type of 'active TB' it is not to be guessed at or messed with. Anyone who thinks they may have it or may have been exposed to it, should see a doctor. If you are having cough as a symptom, you should warn your doctor's office or Emergency dept of your suspicions before you go in.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as a minor case of TB. When you talk about possibilities then I would say it is possible but better be safe than sorry.

no such thing as a "minor" case of TB. It's like saying you are just a little bit pregnant.
You either have it, or you don't. If you do and you don't get proper treatment, not only do you put yourself at risk, you put every single person within 15 feet of you at the same risk.
