I'm a nurse. I have seen this more than once, it's not a pretty sight. A person can be alive until we get the heart to work again. The organs can shut down fast as a result. I have worked in the ER for many years and few recover and walk out of there as a result. I hope this helps. Most are not awake and the hearing is the last thing to go when a person expires. Take care.

there is no way your heart can stop and you still be living so to speak..It can skip a beat or have various rhythms that are not normal, but if your heart stops beating you won,t feel anything..If you are experiencing funny feeling in your chest your should go to the Dr. or ER immediately

For a few seconds, you might continue to be conscious. You'd quickly become light-headed, feel "like something's wrong" and then fade out if your heart doesn't re-start. I've seen this happen to more than one person.
