Hi devi,
I was dignosed with anxiety disorder and panic disorder in 1997. the reasons for panic attacks or the etiology of the disorder is not fully known. Only theories at this point.
To stop having these attacks after one that has been diagnosed with these disorders must seek professional treatment by a Psychiatrist. They are treatable!! Some need meds and some need behavior therapy and some just need new skills to deal with stress. Its up to you and your Doc really. GOd Bless you sweety!! Its a hard fight but take life and what it gives to you by the throat

Its a physical reaction to stress. Some people are more prone to stress naturally than other people.Technically its a type of psycho-somatic disorder. I started having panic attacks when I was 8 years old. I went to the doctor and stayed in a hospital for 2 months because of them at age 13. I had wanted to commit suicide because they made me SO physically ill. So my parents had me committed. I used to draw things and go and look in the mirror , or apply makeup , or pick at my nails anything that would use a lot of concentration would make them stop. A change of scenery , getting out of where you are at can help make them go away.
They put me on Paxil which did work for a while. It made me gain A LOT of weigh. They put me on Prozac no fun , made me angry. I believe they should have given me a type of sedative like Valium. I wound up smoking marijuana which can both cause and alleviate panic. They need to do more research with marijuana in regards to panic.
Not a lot is known for certain about panic attacks, they tend to run in families. Some doctors will blow you off big time. Don't let doctors push you into taking things either. If they give you a med and you feel it doesn't work , TELL them so.

I dont think there is always a "reason". I had them, and for no reason at all! Thats what makes them so scarey, they can come on at any time, for no reason. I went to a doctor and got some medicine for them. A few years later, I have weaned off the meds, and dont have them anymore. Go see a doc. They will help you. Good luck!

I have been told that if something upsets you that is what makes you have a panic attack.
as for how to stop you just need to tell yourself that everything is okay and try and regulate your breathing.
the doctor kinda told me its all in your head kind of thing
