If I tell my boyfriend to get tested for hep b, will it tell us if he is 1.) currently infected and 2.) had a past infection? What is the standard test for someone who doesn't know if there vaccinated?

A hep B blood test will indicate IgM and IgG. A positive IgM test means there is a current, active infection. A positive IgG test means there was a past exposure (whether previous infection or vaccination). The IgG titers for past infection and vax are somewhat different.

Your bf needs to ask for his vaccination records (yellow card). If he's been with the same doctor a while, that should be available.
