My husband's thinks his grandmother Opal G. Jenkins may have been the first woman to have open heart surgery in Los Angeles City of Hope sometime in the 1930's, we need information on what her congential heart defect might have been for himself and his sister.

Your best bet would be to start with family medical records. Hospitals are not required to keep records from that far back. If you can identify if and when she actually had an operation you would be in a better position to find records. You might also want to check news papers archives. The first woman to have open heart surgery is news for any paper.

Probobly won't be able to because a lot fo medical records are kept confidential. Unless you can get some publicity on the situation and then the hospital may prove it as false or true.

You have some options:
1.Contact family members and see if they have pieces of information.
2.Look into websites or the hospital's current site.(Excellent site in my sources.)
3.Look into Heart history books and see who was the first with the operation.
4.Type her name in the search bar.
