Pleurisy is inflammation of the lining of the lung...it can be painful. I really don't know much about it or what causes it.

Pleurisy hurts really bad and is usually the result of another lung problem and can also develop into pneumonia. I quess if the Pleurisy got bad enough you might have to have a thoracentisis.

I've been smoking heavily for 20+ yrs and have never had pneumonia. Don't you think that if cigarette smoke caused all that they advertise then all the smokers would be dead with disease in 2yrs since they consume thousands of times the concentration that second hand smoke has? I'm so tired of hearing everyone blame smoke for every health problem out there when any logical person can see right through the crap the health department is advertising. If secondhand smoke really has killed 600,000 people how come they never came up with a single name of a victim until last year? And isn't it funny how every year that number just seems to multiply on itself.

Pleurisy is fluid in the lungs, pneumonia is fluid with an infection.

Either one can cause the lungs having to be drained. I think they're both bad.
