background info, 18 years old, male, healthy, 5'9, 130 lbs. i worked out almost everyday but now i can't because i keep getting this weird cramp right below my rib cage near the center of my torso, on the left side. its hard to describe exactly where it is but i think that does a good job. i get it every time i walk or run, and never when i lift weights. sometimes it feels much stronger than a regular cramp and it's not where i would normaly get cramps (actually i never get cramps when i run). i would just really like to know what is cause this weird cramp to happen EVERY single time i walk. for example, today, i walked to my class which is about 10 minutes away from the parking lot and i got "the cramp" after only a minutes of walking. my breathing is fine and idk what the hell is causing it. could it just be growing pains, malnutrition, or a heart problem? i really doubt it being a heart problem but im not rulint it out. i would rather have an answer from a doctor of physician. thanx

You are experiencing what is known as a side stitch. The cause of a side stitch is not known for certain, but it appears to be a result of insufficient blood supply to the diaphragm or tightness in the ligaments that hold the liver and other internal organs in place. Weight lifting and running can cause inflammation of internal ligaments which makes them hypersensitive to any additional stress. Unfortunately, there aren't many things that can be done to relieve side stitches - sometimes stretching helps (and sometimes makes it worse), along with other things like avoiding exercise on a full stomach, and remaining hydrated.

In addition, there seems to be a link between electrolyte balance and side stitches in some people. Sides stitches sometimes disappear when people take a magnesium or potassium supplement. Low body fat (< 6%) can also cause this problem because there isn't enough fat to cushion the organs.

I am not doctor and you really need to consult one, because no one can diagnose over the Net, nor should they.
At 18, it is unlikely to be growing pains, but could be muscular, particularly if your exercise regime has favoured one set of muscles over another. Muscles work in opposition to each other, so the over development of one weakens the other. This might explain why you can lift, but not walk.

It could be growing pains,It could also be circulation problems, as we all do not stand or sit in a perfect mode, we tend to slouch a lot. But please do go and see a Doctor, because age does not come into the equation, any more, better to be safe than sorry.
