Hi, does anyone know of a store that sells vegetarian marshmallows in the UK? I know some online stores do it, but it would be much more convenient for me to just buy it from a local shop. (Asda? Tesco? Sainsburys?)
Any advice appreciated. Thanks. =)

Thank you for all the answers so far. Will definitely check out the Holland and Barratt in town.

As for whether marshmallows are vegetarian or not, they contain beef gelatin, made out of... you guessed it.

Damn, why can't Asda do veggie marshmallows...=(

Hi, I thought all the marshmallows were vegetarian (but not vegan).

http://www.veganessentials.com/

has vegan ones.

(in the menu on the left, choose Food & Sweets and you'll find "Vegan Marshmallow Products" at the bottom of the page)

Big supermarkets don't do vegan marshmallows. I could help you with smaller stores, but I don't know where you live.

Make your own:
10g VegeGel vegetarian gelatin (or 2 tbsp powdered gelatin)
225g caster sugar
225ml light corn oil (Mazola, or a supermarket own-brand, e.g. Tesco do their own)
1 egg white
icing sugar to dust
Add the VegeGel to 110ml warm water
In another pan, combine the sugar and corn oil and add 75ml water. Heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved and it reaches the soft-ball stage (240C)
Add the gelatin to the syrup, stir and allow to cool for 10 minutes
Meanwhile, beat the egg white to stiff peaks.
Slowly add the syrup/gel to the egg, beating at high speed until combined and at the soft-peak stage (the key, apparently, is SLOWLY pouring it in.)
Pour out the soft-peak mixture on to greaseproof paper to the desired thickness. Leave to cool for about 12 hours (or overnight)
Dust lightly with icing sugar. Peel off the paper (moisten the underside if it sticks). Dust the underside too. Cut into any shapes you desire, dust again and eat.

I would just like to say how happy I am to have spotted this thread. I've been searching for veggie marshmallows without success for 4 years (ever since I went veggie). Thank you all!

it depends where you live. if you live in or near london, then i think two shops sell them. these are planet organic, and fresh and wild.
you can call both of them to find out if they stock them, but i'm sure i've seen them in planet organic.
you might also be able to get them in holland and barrett stores. if not, then perhaps you can ask them to stock them for you?
