when he was first born he made a noise breathing but the doctor said it was mucas.when he was 3 weeks old he was hospitalised with bronchiolitis which was pretty severe. He left hospital with atrovent and salbutamol inhalers which they said he would need to use for about the next 3 weeks.Anyway he reacted badly to salbutamol and was taken off it but has continued to need the atrovent ever since. He makes a constent noise all the time when breathing and has days when he wheezes morning to night.I cant let him cry for any amount of time cos he wheezes and coughs till he,s purple and when he first wakes up in the morning he,ll cough until his chests clears. If you place your hand on his back you can feel how bad his chest is.I have lost count of the number of doctors and paediatritians we,ve seen and have been told everything from its just taking time to get over the bronchilitis to he,s a happy wheezer!!!!! and even that he may need to be tested for cystic fibrosis ,any advice please

He is a big fine baby who you wouldnt think looking at him there was anyhing wrong with.He did have a tube passed down both nostrils to check for blockages but was ok.it was also suggested he may have a "floppy" voicebox but that was dismissed or asthma but they couldnt officially diagnose till he,s two and the treatment is just what he,s got now anyway.I just feel that theres been that many sugestions to whats matter with him and one year later we still dont have a firm answer.

Hi, I am a Homeopathic Practitioner. Children respond very well to Homeopathic remedies, and get cured very fast without any side effects or complications. If you can send me your childs complete details I can help you better. First Aconite 30X every 10 mins , later Spongia 30X to be used. when fever and cough recedes a bit use Hepar Sulph 30X.

If excessive force is needed to cough then Sambucus 1X.

If baby tends to vomit due to excessive cough then Ipecac 30X.

Feeling of tiredness along with rattling in throat Antim tart 30X.

Asthma : Best remedies are Ipecac 30X and Ars alb 30X.

It is best to get him checked for cystic fibrosis. anyway for peace of mind.
Its hard with babies, because you dont want to do too many tests, especially invasive ones. I assume they've done a chest x-ray or is he too young? As long as you see the doctor and follow what they say, report back if the baby has any signs of fever or real difficulty breathing. The doctors may check for any allergies too?
My Nephew had terrible wheezes and repeated chest infections until he finished teething, for some reason every tooth that came through caused him to get a cold that went into a chest infection. Its so hard to see poorly babies.
Stick it out, try to trust the doctor & keep an eye on your little precious.

my son was a "happy wheezer" too, with a simular story. he is nearly 4 now and is a fit healthy lad. was just really the 1st year or so that he was bad... if he is growing well and is ok in every other way then i wouldnt worry. most babys go purple with anger if they cry too long, well my 3 all have, and they used to cry till they where coughing as well. but and heres the big but, he is your child and if you really feel there is something wrong then you have to push everything till you find out what it is. had he had any tests at all?
is he ok in every other way?

He should have already been tested for cystic fibrosis. I don't know where you live, but I would search for a special children's hospital with respiratory specialists connected with a University. In Chicago, for example, it would be Children's Memorial hospital. Find such a group of experts and travel even if it means spending a few days in another city like people do when they go to Mayo's in Rochester, MN (I don't know if Mayo's does pediatrics), but it doesn't sound like yo have received an adequate evaluation or diagnosis.

It could be RSV because one of my nephew had it and sounded the same as what your baby sounds and if not checked can hospitalised for a few weeks. Respiratory syncytial virus.
some babies with RSV develop potentially serious lower respiratory infections such as bronchiolitis (infection of the small breathing tubes in the lungs, also known as “chest cold”) and pneumonia (lung infection)

It could be tracheomalacia, the cartilage is often too soft in newborn babies and needs time to become rigid. the trachea collapses and causes this noise. please get it checked out for this
