First you need to be sure it's an UTI, it could be bladder, kidney etc. Alot of the broader spectrum antibiotics they used to give don't work as well these days due to overuse. Your first lines of defense is drinking alot of water and cranberry juice. You would need something like macrobid which would work for both UTI and bladder. Sometimes they take a urine test to determine if it's a true infection and not something more, and also culture the bacteria. Other common drugs given are levaquin, cipro, and erythromycin based drugs. When taking the different antibiotics you could be prone to yeast infections, which require treatment as well, you could get yeast in the nose, throat/mouth, vagina, etc that would require treatment. Alot of people take probiotics and/or eat yogurt to counteract the good bacteria removal.
You want to make sure you clean yourself well, wear cotton crotch undergarments, do not wear wet (swimming) clothing very long, wear loose crotched clothing, and watch using scented toliet paper or paper products as they tend to make people more prone to infections of this nature.

hmm, depends on how bad the UTI is. Some people have become resistant to sulfa and first line antibiotics. This is due to the overuse of antibiotics and the misuse. Like some people are prescribed antibiotics to treat an infection and they don`t take the full dose prescribed to them and the infection never was cured, the bacteria becomes stronger and resiliant to drugs and treatment. Whatever is prescribed to you please take the full dose!!Help us all fight bacterial resistance!
