You should absolutely tell your doctor. In fact, low potassium can kill you. DO NOT wait until your cardiologist appointment. Go to the ER now. You are having symptoms that indicate a major problem. Electolyte imbalances are very common, especially with a disease like bulimia. In fact, this is a leading cause of death among people with your disease. PLEASE get help for your heart and electrolytes now. A simple blood test can tell them. An EKG will probably be ordered too. (It's also very easy). Once those are straightened out, please get help for the bulimia. Also, tell the ER docs that you are bulimic. Their treatment could save your life. Best of luck. Right now, YOU are the only one who can help yourself.

The warnings above my answer are correct!! Please go and tell a doctor what's going on. You know, I have had friends swear that their horrible cases of bulimia (I mean HORRIBLE cases, like throwing up 15 times a day!) were *cured* by taking anti-depressant medications? There are medicines (like Prozac) that can make a big difference and help you get healthy again. Best of luck to you. Take care.

I've taken care of people that have low potassium levels that lead to palpitations. This can be deadly. Please seek help, go to the ER and get your potassium level checked. This is one thing that often kills bulemic pt and anorexic, like Teri Schiavo and Karen Carpenter. Don't be a statistic, I'm sure there are people that love you very much, take care of yourself.

Please tell your doctor the truth. He may not be able to help you if you don't. Bulimia is very dangerous.
