Perhaps go with the zodiac theme of the birthday person. Ask everyone to dress to fit.... colour, gem, animal and so on.

Try a sex in the city theme. It would be classy and sexy and give the party goers a chance to wear some clothes they haven't worn in a while. Serve cosmos and martinis. Play the role just don't spend all the money.

One of my favorites that we did was a murder/mystery. I received the game as a gift & thought it was going to be really cheesy, but turned out really well once evryone got into it. Also enjoyed the luau party thrown for husband's 50th. The decorations were fairly inexpensive.

70's Disco Party (have everyone dress up)
Wine and cheese party (have everyone bring a bottle of wine)
Find out his fav. movie genre, have people come dressed as characters from them (ie: Quenton Tarantino movies...Alfred Hitchcock Movies...etc.)
An Animal House Party (Toga, Toga, Toga!!!!)
These are all fun...
